    Dr. Bear and all members,

thank you for maintaining this board. It is an excellent source of info on DL issues.

I would value your thoughts on this question:

Is it ever appropriate for a legitimate university to knowingly higher faculty with degrees from Southwest University, Pacific Western University, or Trinity College and University?

Since Southwest and the business degrees only of Pacific Western are appropriately state licensed, I could imagine situations in which a school could rationalize hiring people with those degrees. Trinity: no.

(I have nothing to do with maintaining this forum; I am very grateful to those who do.)

  3. Southwest U. is required by Louisiana to achieve accreditation by a DOE-recognized agency with a reasonable period of time ("reasonable" to be defined by the accrediting agency, as I understand). I wonder how they are doing?

    See http://webserv.regents.state.la.us/pdfs/2000/mi092800.pdf .

There is also a Southwest University in Bulgaria. See http://www.swu.bg/index_e.htm . One of Bulgaria's major universities.

Amusing that neither Louisiana nor Bulgaria are in the South West of their respective continents. (Though I do recognize that the Louisiana-licensed school was established in Arizona, and that the Bulgarian school is in Blagoevgrad, in the South West of Bulgaria near Greece.)

  4. Here are a few faculty that claim degrees from "Southwest University." I don't know that all of these refer to the Arizona/Louisiana school. While looking for these, I found that there is also a Southwest University in Brazil and in China (in addition to the one in Bulgaria). There's also the possibility of confusion with Georgia Southwestern State (GA), Southwestern College (KS). Southwest State University (MN), Southwest Baptist University (MO), Southwest Missouri State University (MO), College of the Southwest (NM), Southwestern Oklahoma State University (OK), Southwest Texas State University (TX), Southwestern Adventist University (TX), Southwestern University (TX).
