    Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about asking for a career advice and this seems to be the right forum to raise this issue. I have got a Bachelors in Materials Engineering and its been 6 years for me to work for a MNC in oilfield.
I have worked in few management positions as well. At the moment, I have felt a serious need to increase my educational knowledge to be able to compete in this economically melting world. In this connection, I want to ask for the best online schools. Another confusion remains whether I should go for an MBA degree in general or a MS degree in finance or marketing? If Masters in Finance, then which online school will be the best?

Any related feedback will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Based on what you have said, I'm assuming that you would like to appear more qualified for management positions and would like to study finance more than marketing. That said, the MBA designation will be most recognizable on a resume, and there are many schools that would allow you to specialize in finance.

When do you want to start? How long to you want to take? Do you have tuition assistance or reimbursement through your current employer? If so, then you might be able to afford an AACSB MBA option.

One of the best online MBA values that offers specializations in finance, marketing, and a dozen or so other fields is TUI University at $345 per unit. Liberty University has a good online MBA program at $395 per unit but it doesn't offer finance or marketing concentrations. University of Phoenix Online also has a good MBA program that is ACBSP accredited, but is considerably higher than the other two. (I have specific knowledge of those three programs from either having taught or taken classes.)

Still, there are many, many online and blended MBA options available.

Just FYI on the situation I had regarding the MS or MBA degree. In my position, I am thinking of doing a career change from claims adjusting to accounting field. I initially wanted to pursue an MBA, but starting thinking if I don't have accounting experience, it would benefit me more to pursued an MS in Accounting. Reason being, I would be able to take at least 30 graduate accounting credits and gain more technical knowledge in the field. If I was already in the field I would consider going the MBA route.

I am pretty sure you can satisfy both at the same time.

Three years back I was searching for 3 types of grad schools

    1. Law School
    2. Business School
    3. Criminal Justice School

I picked option #3, but I remember stumbling upon MBA degree options with an emphasis on Accounting.

Dave is asking great questions that need to be answered, but like Dave I agree an MBA option would be your best bet.

Some other great schools to consider for an MBA are

California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) - 100% Online, Highly Respected & NO GMAT :D
Northeastern University - 100% Online, Highly Respected :)
Florida Tech University Online - 100% Online, Highly Respected Institution :)

An online MBA degree is a solid course that prepares you in financial accounting, marketing management, information technology, leadership training and human resource development among other subjects. This provides a well-rounded curriculum and training that will strengthen your position in today's competitive job market. I would recommend you to check out the online MBA program[/URL offered by Stevens-Henager College. The college has an option of Fast track program which allows you to complete your degree within 15 months.
