I'd like to know the recognition of the "Columbia Southern University", especially in Hong Kong.

Well, it's unaccredited and, according to Bears Guide, has claimed accreditation from a few unrecognised accrediting agencies in the past.

Your first port of call is the Ministry of Education in Hong Kong - try http://www.ed.gov.hk and ask if they have permission to deliver in Hong Kong.

    Cheers,

    George

You are wrong. It has been accredited by DETC. http://www.colsouth.edu/accred.html

Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, AL is accredited by DETC unless you are referring to a different Columbia Southern University. DETC is a recognized accrediting agency. I believe that the one in Hong Kong is a satellite outfit of the Alabama school.

Columbia Southern University is currently recruiting students in Bejing, Shanghai and Canton of China. The related advertisement can be viewed at http://learning.sohu.com/mba_csu/index.htm

CSU does not seem to have any course offering in Hong Kong. Overseas courses offering in Hong Kong must be registered with the Education Department of Hong Kong and the list of the foreign courses currently being offered in Hong Kong can be found at the HK Education Department's website at http://www.info.gov.hk/emb/eng/prog_high/index.html

If you are in Hong Kong, you should choose those accredited programs. There are plenty of accredited US MBA programs, including some are AACSB accredited, offering in Hong Kong. In addition, a lot of UK and Australian programs are also offered in Hong Kong. Check with the HK ED's website for those programs.

While Columbia Southern is unquestionably legitimate, fewer than half of US registrars will accept DETC-accredited degrees or credits, and my belief is that the numbers would be lower still in Asia. Acceptance in the business world will be higher.

(As with several other DETC accreditees, Columbia Southern earlier claimed its accreditation from an unrecognized and non-wonderful accrediting agency.)

The advertisement claims that the MBA program in Chain has more than 200 students and the past examination pass rate is more than 95%. The duration of the program is 18 months. The program requires 37 credits (12 courses x 3 credits + "1" credit for 'graduation (research?) paper").

The degree is claimed to be recognized by the US Federal Education Department (or some other similar name) and member countries of the WTO.

The specimen degree certificate is shown at http://learning.sohu.com/mba_csu/degree.htm

There are too many distance education MBAs, BBAs, others, etc which are offered in Hong Kong or I have to say 'It is flooded" with distance education from college in UK, USA. Hong Kong people tend to be short-sighted or narrow-minded, what they are choosing in fact is "good buy", i.e. pay monies for quick qualification. The programs which claims "the same as in overseas campus" are questionable. Some programs , as far as I know, are too easy........effortless.......to get a Master degree

All overseas programs offered in Hong Kong must be registered with the Department of Education. Only RA or equivalent programs are accepted. Of course, some unregistered and non-accredited programs are also offered (practically, they are illegal as they are not registered with Dept. of Education).

A lot of good programs from top universities are offered in Hong Kong. Among others, it includes the following:

    Australia:
    University of New South Wales
    University of Sydney
    Monash University

    US:
    Michigan State University
    California State University

    UK:
    University of London
    Warwick University

    Canada:
    University of Western Ontaria

    China:
    Tsing Hua University
    Peking University

    and many others....

I don't see there are "too easy" and "effortless" accredited and registered programs in Hong Kong, unless it is unregistered and non-accredited one.

Oversea qualifications can be either assessed by the Qualifications Section of the Civil Service Branch of the
Hong Kong Government or by the Hong Kong Council for Academic Awards. Assessment from the Hong Kong Government is free of charge while from the Hong Kong Council for Academic Awards charges you some USD250 for assessment of qualifications in one application. Hope Irene can contact them directly to fulfill her needs.
