I received a letter today from the faculty of Education at McGill University confirming the completion the year of postdoctoral research.

I wanted to encourage those who are looking at distance PhD's etc that it can work. My entrance to the postdoc at McGill was based on my DEd at Unisa and research and publishing I have done since as well as a project that was liked for the research project I wanted to do. I wrote two articles and presented research at Research Exchange Forum which was great for making contacts and sharing the research with others with a similar interest.

It shouldn't matter if the PhD was by distance or not since it is the research produced that speaks for itself.

Way to go Brad!! Great news for those of us comtemplating a move to a doctoral program. UNISA has made it a bit more difficult for MBA degree holders to get into their doctoral study programs, I should have applied sooner, ....... dumb me!!

    Anyway, great news!

Who are the allowing to apply? I thought MBA was universally approved to enter into Business PHD.

I don't want to hijack the post but I will say something briefly about the topic. When I first looked at UNISA for a DCOM degree, I had choices with my MBA, today I have only one choice in their doctoral studies program(s) and DCOM Economic related choices are no longer there. They now want a Ms.Econ. for entry. Much more difficult to arrange entry.

Once again, congrats Brad on that McGill achievement!

All depends on the program you graduated from, and the program you are applying to. Definitely not universal.

No. Many of the traditional bricks & mortar doctoral programs insiston the MS in a business subject (i.e., the same subject as the proposed PhD program). Their reasoning is that the MBA is a generalist degree while the PhD is a very specialized degree. Online schools tend to be a bit more accepting of the MBA.

UNISA still accepts MBA holders into their DBL program.

    Hi Ted,

Unfortunately that's the only program available now and it's not for me.

Are there online PostDoc programs (US Based) or does that defeat the concept of PostDoc studies?

    Hi Ted,

That's okay!! I'm lamenting my loss, that's all! I'm going to try and contact the Economics department and see if I can still qualify for entry into their DCOM Econ program. I'm an engineer by trade but in my other life I was a commodities specialist who wrote options strategies for a brokerage firm. I have an under-graduate degree in economics and I'm fully licensed to trade in every investment vehicle there is. I've since retired from engineering and trade full-time. In addition, my thesis would be related to investment so maybe ....................... you never know! Thanks.

You have the Post doc certifications from Tulane and U of Florida. Post Docs are there to build your resume with publications.

Thank you. It isn't always easy with DL but it can be done. What is good about this experience is that the research can and is used by others in the field.

Which certifications are you referring too? A post-doc at UF involves research work. No certificate is awarded.

This program is limited entry to:
non-business doctorate degree holders who received their doctoral degree from an institution whose business program is AACSB accredited.

non-business doctorate degree holders who currently teach at an AACSB accredited business program.

I asked, and they would take a business doctorate from a non AACSB school as long as you teach at a AACSB accredited school and you wish to specialize in a different field than your doctorate.
