Any suggestions for a Business Policy class to satisfy the requirement of TESC? different from the one of TESC or Excelsior? Thank you!
If you are a current mid level manager or entrepreneur that understands the basic concepts outlined here http://www.netmba.com/strategy/ and can speak the business policy language, then I would buy the recommended book (used) and take the TECEP. http://www.tesc.edu/tecep.php?CourseCode=BUS-421 The TECEP is 25 multiple choice questions and 5 essay questions. You nail the essay questions and you pass the exam.
jra, My wife is also planning on completing a business policy course to meet TESC's degree requirement in the BSBA program. She is currently taking classes at Indiana Tech and they offer BA 4910 - Business Policy & Strategic Planning both online and via independent study. The online courses are 5-weeks long for undergrad classes and the independent study courses start on the 15th of each month and you have 6 months to complete them. It looks like the next time BA 4910 will be offered online is from Aug. 24-Sep. 26, 2009. Here's a couple of links for you to check out: http://www.indianatech.edu/ProspectiveStudents/Online/Pages/default.aspx http://www.indianatech.edu/SiteCollectionDocuments/Registrar/Online_Schedule_2009.pdf abnrgr275
This class will probably satisfy your requirement from Colorado State University - Pueblo via Independent Study. http://coned.colostate-pueblo.edu/IndependentStudy/Mgmt/Mgmt485.asp MGMT 485: Management Strategy and Policy 3 semester-hour credits - Tuition $448.50 -- 149.50 per credit The course integrates all previous business core courses into a realistic and scientific approach to the solution of organizational problems and evaluation of opportunities. The course concentrates on the long-term aspects of business operations and uses the case study method extensively. E-mail available. Prerequisites: Accounting I & II, Economics I & II, Principles of Management, Principles of Marketing, Business Statistics, Computers and Information Systems, Organizational Behavior and Production/Operations Management.
Thank you guys, The CSU Pueblo class looks really interesting. If I am outside the US can I still take a TECEP exam?
When I took the Business Policy TECEP less than two years ago, I identified a proctor (local CC testing center) and submitted a proctor request, which was subsequently approved. TESC then sends the TECEP to the proctor, who then coordinates a time with you to sit the exam. In the case of the military serving overseas, then someone within the command may serve as a proctor. In your case, I don't think that having an out of country proctor is an issue, as long as they are qualified. If you have the experience, then I would recommend sitting the TECEP. Most Business Policy courses require extensive, extensive writing. If you are unfamiliar with real life scenarios then you may consider a course, but if you are a seasoned manager, then I would go for the TECEP.
I don't have a lot of real life experience in all those subjects... mostly in international trading/sourcing but does not cover all the areas I need for the test. Seems like a very challenging course and sort of like a thesis work. Very very interesting.
In this instance, I would recommend taking the course. My son is currently enrolled in the TESC course. There are six modules, which include written assignments and class discussions. The course is manageable and he is enjoying the interaction with classmates and instructor. Good luck with whatever option you choose.
are TESC courses self paced? is the course proctored or is it assignment based? I am the worst exam taker ever but I love to write research papers.
The link below shows the options. My son says that the midterm is proctored, but the final is not. There is also a project. The mid term is worth 15% of your grade. http://www.tesc.edu/course.php?CourseCode=BUS-421&sem=
