First let me say that I am totally thankful to have found this forum. So far, I have received more help and advice than I had hoped for and I thank those of you who have responded. Ive been alerted to degree mill scams, and turned on to some what appears to be very good choices for distance learning. I checked out UMASS online and it seems to be a great alternative. It is affordable (only about 260 per credit hour), and I know is a very reputable school. The only drawback is the online degrees offered is somewhat limited. I would love to find a school with the reputation and affordability of UMASS that offered a BA or BS in my preferred field of study. I am interested in an English or Communications degree or a Business or Administration degree. Either of these would be acceptable to me. You see, I have about 65 hours of what I hope are mostly transferable credit from a local State College. Anyone here know of such a school that offers a complete online program in these areas? Thanks in advance!

PS - I looked into UMUC and although it seems very good, and offers some of the fields Im interested in, it is quite expensive in comparison to UMASS

Oh, yeah. I need a school in which federal financial aid is available.

PS - Whats the best book or guide I can buy to learn more about what Im looking for? I bought "Get Your Degree Online" by Matthew Helm and April Helm and didnt find it of much help to me.

I would recommend Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning. It's practically the bible in the DL field. It will give you more information than you ever imagined was available. You can check it out at http://www.degree.net. It is published by Ten Speed Press.

    Asweck,
Check out Limestone college at www.limestone.edu They offer internet courses for quite a few majors, I take a combination of evening and internet courses and like them both. (adult student) They are RA (SACS) and have been accreditted since 1928 the college has been around since 1845 so there is no worry of doors closing or names changing! They are very freindly in admissions!I have heard from fellow students that Limestone will not hack your transcript all to peices if you transfer credits to them!

The internet courses are 570.00 for 3hrs credit. If all goes well I will graduate with a BS Business Administration/ Management in Dec.2002 they also accept 30 hrs. of Clep/Dantes credits. My experience at Limestone with the staff and professors has been very good no matter what format of delivery. They have a good enough reputation to allow person who does their part of keeping a decent GPA to attend just about any grad school in the nation!
    Good luck,
    Gavin aka Buckwhaet
