CCU Receives May 2009 AACRAO Membership CCU was recently accepted for Institutional Membership with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). AACRAO membership is open to postsecondary, degree-granting institutions accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Membership benefits include invitations to participate in workshops and meetings, access to online workshops and courses, and trainings on compliance, FERPA and Federal regulations. AACRO is a nonprofit, voluntary, professional association of more than 10,000 higher education admissions and registration professionals who represent approximately 2,500 institutions in more than 30 countries. Their mission is to serve and advance higher education by providing leadership in academic and enrollment services.
This is not really my thing but based on my sprint through the AACRAO website, "receiving" this kind of approval just means that you spent some money and bought a membership. This is a membership, not an accreditation. Anyone can join. I'll be pleased if I'm wrong and discover that this actually means something. http://www.aacrao.org/
You are correct. AACRAO is a professional association for college registrars and admissions officers. Individuals and institutions can become members by paying a fee. Membership does not mean that any evaluation of the institution has been done by AACRAO.
I can tell you by experience that getting this done will now allow CCU credits to be transferred to Mountain State University. MSU turned me down for transfer because CCU was not listed before.
I think that this may be true of non-RA institutions. I'm not 100% on the policy, so don't quote me on that one.
MSU won't recognize any Dept. of Education recognized accreditations except RA? But any postsecondary degree-granting institution with Dept. of Education recognized accreditation can simply purchase an AACRAO institutional membership without any further screening taking place. And then suddenly MSU will recognize those schools degrees and credits? That sounds kind of stupid to me. I doubt if this is a typical practice.
