Complicated questions regarding transfer credits

I hope someone can give me some input on this:

    1. Is it permissible to transfer credits that I already used towards a degree? I could see why, and I could also see why not. But I didn't find any general guidelines for this.

    2. I am kind of toying with the idea to get a B.A. through a completion program. I already have a Master's Degree, and I am ABD in a German doctoral program, which will be my first degree from my home university (there is no undergrad degree for my program).

Now the question for me is: in Germany, students start with their majors right away, there are no general ed requirements (we cover all this in the last year of high school). Do you think they would make me take lower division classes regardless? It is usually not a problem for German kids to get into American junior/senior classes...

Very specific questions, I know. I will appreciate any help with this.

At USA colleges the following rules usually apply for a second bachelors degree:
    (1) 30 additional semester units are required that have not been previously been applied to a degree.
    (2) Students must meet all the requirements for the degree being sought.

Rule (2) would mean you would probably have to pass all the general edfucation requirements.
For specific details check out the catalogs of the colleges that interset you.

In the UK high school students can take "A" level subjects. I have heard of these being accepted in the US as lower division credit. If you have a similar qualification you could get it evaluated.

Thanks for the quick help! I think I'll submit all my transcripts and see what they can offer. It would be fun and tempting to take some general ed classes, but for that money I could just get another Master's.

You did not say what the fields are for your Masters and Doctorate degrees. But if you are looking for a degree in more generalized areas perhaps the following masters degrees will suit your needs

    Western New Mexico State University
    MA Interdisciplinary Studies

    American Military University/American Public University
    MA in Humanities

    or
    MA in History

Oh, that's right, sorry! My M.A. is in Applied Linguistics, my Ph.D. will be English Studies with a focus on Linguistics.

The nice thing about a B.A. would be that it could contain a healthy mix of interesting stuff. I am planning to get the certificate in Corporate Communications that PSU offers, which is undergrad. Then transfer in a bunch of other credits, study some more, and get a nice B.A. of General Studies with a focus on this-and-that.

Probably the last thing on earth my career needs, but everyone has a B.A., so I want one, too.
