This seems like it would be a great resume builder and an interesting class. Central Michigan University, CMU Online Certificate in Online Instruction http://www.cel.cmich.edu/teachonline/ non-credit ($295) 1-credit ($389)
Nice. I like the cute one credit. Here is another one. A little more expensive, but more content and more impressive on your resume: http://scs.indiana.edu/nc/decert.html
Both of these sounds like interesting courses. Do you know if the non-credit version of the CMU course would still earn me the certificate? Would the resulting cert be any different than the for-credit version? I tried emailing the contact person on the CMU site but the email got bounced back to me, guess I'll try contacting them by phone tomorrow.
If anyone's interested in this course, the next session is starting soon, it'll run August 9- September 6, 2009: http://www.cel.cmich.edu/teachonline/ I signed up for it this time, I'll report back in this thread after taking the course to let you all know whether I recommend it or not.
I took the class just recently, and it was a lot of fun. It’s very basic and covers creating an online syllabus, assessment options online, and converting lecture notes into online notes. The teacher incorporates group work as well as many different types of different assessment options to demonstrate to this to students (quizzes, journals, discussions boards, and surveys). It’s definitely not a self-based course, and requires a lot of interaction for a one credit course.
Sounds like something I would have liked before I was first hired. It also seems to mirror the online training provided by some schools prior to a new instructor attempting to teach a real class.
I'm now nearly finished the CMU cert, and posted some thoughts about this program here: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?t=31811
