    Did I smell a put-down? :(

    According to Meriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/schizo):

    Pronunciation:
    \ˈskit-(ˌ)sō\
    Function:
    noun
    Inflected Form(s):
    plural schiz·os
    Date:
    1945

    : a schizophrenic individual
    — schizo adjective

I was giving the ascription to a web site not a person. There's a difference.

I dated a schizophrenic woman once. She was very much like the main character in the movie "A Beautiful Mind." For 1.5 years, she appeared to be completely normal and charming. She effectively exchanged social pleasantries with others and she fit in well with others -- at least on the surface. She has a Bachelors degree in psychology, so she's obviously intelligent. After 1.5 years, she suddenly had a mental meltdown e.g. she became delusional and began imagining things that simply weren't true. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

You know something, Dr. Blackbird, there was once a time when I could post on this board as if I were merely sitting around talking to friends. Back during that time, I openly admitted the fact that I am a manic-depressive (and, as well, certain other medical problems). But let me say this: now that I see this example of your incredibly cavalier and condescending use of the very slangish term "schizo," I do not feel one single iota of obligation to give you (or anyone else on this board) any list of all the big scary words that psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, and other mental health professionals have thrown at me for the past 21 years. If you are going to use a word, why can't you, an educated professional, write out an entire word like "schizophrenia" or "schizo-affective disorder" (and cut and paste the official DSM-IV definitions so that us mere common lumps can understand)? You are absolutely right you smell a put-down and you knew that, even without me telling you anything.

By the way, I have been taking my meds. So, don't even go there.

It's very good that you are taking your mental health medications. :)

If you have a mental health disorder, it's not my place to diagnose that kind of an illness on this venue.

It seems that this forum sometimes degenerates into childish provocations. It appears that you are trying to pick a fight. I already explained that the term "Schizo" was being applied to a web site. You cannot accept the literary freedom of using the term as a metaphor. So be it. I have for years, dating back to Alt.Education, had a good relationship with folks on the forum. I do not wish to tangle with you. I don't have that kind of time to waste nor do I think it is productive.

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful life.

Your words have offended someone. You've used a diagnostic term as a pejorative. Your attempt to invoke the dictionary is unconvincing. Rather than simply say, "I'm sorry, it was unintended," you've gotten all huffy. I'd expect more from a mh professional. Sorry to have wasted your time.

Yes, a simple "I'm sorry, no offense meant" would have sufficed instead of a lecture about this forum degenerating to childish blah blah blah.

Next time, do be careful in your choice of words.

    Kiz...

You might want to restate that. A misrepresentation and poor reading and understanding of what I literally said has offended this person. I have no need to apologize for something I never committed and never meant. The fellow and you guys need to read more carefully before concluding and passing baseless judgment. Are we descending into the dark abyss of political correctness? Schizo or Schizophrenia?... Swine Flu or H1N1... Handicap or challenged... ad nauseum...

Being a mental health professional does not mean you let others disrespect you by misrepresenting your words and their meanings or mistreating you. There is such a thing as boundaries. Mentally ill folks need to be put in their place and the therapist not play those games. Ever heard of narcissistic personality disorder or borderline personality disorder? Both those types can be drama queens and are experts at turning tables on others, including their therapists. Last thing a therapist should do is play their game but rather expose it. Might seem harsh but it is healthy.

Dr. Blackbird, this forum degenerated into a childish fight because you decided to use a very slangish terminology ("schizo") which would generally be used by some trash-talking teen-ager who has no idea what he is talking about rather than acting like an educated professional and using complete words (like "schizophrenia" or "schizoaffective disorder") and explaining to us little people, based on official DSM-IV definitions, what those big scary words mean and how said diagnosis applies to the offending website. What I cannot accept is an educated professional laughing about, and making fun of, those that his very profession is allegedly attempting to help. Your childish threads which you have posted of late remind me of nothing quite so much as the time that the great Lord Dr. Levicoff, a Union PhD in Religion & Law who did some writing upon the subject of the law and Christian counseling, informed us that "frequent flyer" is mental health professional's "shop lingo" for one who makes frequent trips to psych ward (and then proceeded to laugh about it). I would expect something like that from Lord Levicoff. But I would have expected better from you. Today, one of my heroes has fallen. But there was actually a time when I had considered you to be one of the gods of distance learning. No more.

There is abso-freakin'-lutely nothing wrong with my reading or comprehension skills. An incredibly arrogant individual who claims certain degrees which entitle him to claim to be a mental health professional posts under an anonymous screenname in a fashion deliberately designed to offend those whom his profession is supposedly organized to help. Not only did you make an incredibly stupid post, sir, but you now have the absolute hubris to defend such stupidity. Pride comes before the fall, sir.

And you probably have an incredibly bright future putting incredibly f...ed up computer websites on your couch and diagnosing them. Just please, please, please take my advice and leave us mere humanoids out of your practice because, like most PhDs, you are so incredibly superior to everybody else that you obviously have no idea how to deal with people (well, at least not the little people).
