Wow, can you say "hysteria"? The reaction of the students is a fundamental misunderstanding of how accreditation works. Just because ITT Tech is purchasing their college doesn't mean their college's accreditation will change. If the school is in dire financial straits, the alumni should see this as a positive move. ITT is in pretty good financial shape. What's the alternative...let the school shut down? I don't see how that would be a better option for them.

I especially like the quote by one of the alumni which states "ITT Tech is one step above a degree mill" just because it advertises on "daytime TV". Well, I can tell you there are regionally accredited colleges in my area...well respected colleges...that advertise on TV around here. Did these people learn anything when they went to college?

It is common for universities, including publicly-funded institutions, to advertise on radio and television and in print media around the typical recruitment period each year. In my local area there are no less than three universities and a college that advertise heavily in the spring for the upcoming academic year, in addition to various private vocational schools advertising year round with monthly start dates. Come to think of it even the military uses television and theatre advertisements extensively targeting the youth demographic who attend movies throughout the week and watch *gasp* soap operas in the afternoon.

I actually feel for these people. I'd be beyond mad if I graduated from somewhere like American Military University and it was eventually purchased by someone like the University of Phoenix.

I would share your concern and anger if the quality of the school suffered after the purchase or the name of the school changed from something respectable to something with less than stellar public image. So, yeah if American Military University, for example, was re-branded as University of Phoenix School of Military Studies, for example, I would be beyond angry much like yourself.

Hopefully, for the students who graduated from Daniel Webster College will not see the name of their school change.
