    Hi,

I am quite happy that I found this board!

Where could I find a distance school that has fairly inexpensive general education courses? I need to gain a few more credits.

Also, is www.petersons.com still around? I have tried this URL for a few days and cannot get a response.

    Thanks..

Try your local community college, Thomas Edison State College Guided Study courses, or - Excelsior College Examinations offer busy adults the chance to earn college credit by demonstrating their college-level knowledge in a variety of subject areas.

40 + undergraduate-level examinations provide a convenient and affordable alternative to earning credit in a traditional college classroom.

Excelsior College Examinations are accepted at Excelsior College and nearly 900 colleges and universities worldwide for degree program credit.

Of coarse for low cost the CLEP general exams can not be beat. Second best would be the CLEP subject and DANTES exams. Definately check out Lawrie Miller's site http://www.geocities.com/ba_in_4_weeks .

Greetings! You might want to check the Kentucky Virtual University for low cost general education courses.

It is likely that the cheapest option available is to take college-level exams for credit, as previously mentioned. If testing doesn't appeal to you, however, you might want to try these options: If you happen to live in Oregon, Chemeketa Community College might be some of the cheapest tuition available ($39/credit, or about $130/credit for non-residents). You might also want to try Luisiana State University ($60/Credit), and the University of Iowa ($80/Credit). Neither of these schools charges higher tuition for non-residents of their respective states. Prices quoted reflect what I paid last year, and may be higher now. I don't know much about course delivery at Chemeketa, but I believe LSU only offers paper-based courses, while U of Iowa offers both paper-based and web courses. Any one of these schools should be able to meet most of your general education needs, as they offer many courses in a wide variety of subject areas.

    All the best,

The cheapest G.E. units are to be found at the California community colleges. The catch is that you have to be a California resident. If you are, it's only $11 per unit. A number of the CCs here now offer many courses via distance learning.
