    Hello all,

Can anyone guide me to a good list of impromptu topics for practice for the DSST Principles of Speech Exam. My daughter is going to take the test in early June. She is an excellent public speaker, but she needs a little self confidence and practice for the impromptu speech. Thanks in advance.

Not sure about a list, but the subject I was given was gun control (either for or against - the grade was based on how well you suppported your position). To qualify the advice, I took the DSST exam 15 years ago (and passed it), but gun control seems apropo in today's political envisornment. Anybody else?

I took the exam about five or six years ago. I was given the topic "Should collegiate athletes be allowed to receive pay?" (or something to that effect) for my speech. It was an easy enough topic. All I did was create an outline as if I was going to write an essay in the ten minutes I was given to prepare, then I just followed the outline for my speech. During the speech I focused on keeping a consistent, moderate pace in my speaking (without sounding ridiculous) so that I met the minimum time requirements. Needless to say I passed.

    Hope that helps.

I had "Should be uniforms mandatory in public school".

I wrote out my intro, conclusion, and transition statements and read them word for word when speaking into the recorder.
