I am a Michigan resident, I will have an AA from a community college at the end of this semester and I am looking to finish my Bachelor's in history online.

    My primary considerations are:

Cost (and the availability of financial aid through the US Dept of Education)
100% online education, I do not want residency/travel requirements
The reputation of the school (I plan on going to grad school)
    Quality of coursework

I have been looking primarily at SUNY Empire State College and APU, mostly because they are affordable and they are the programs that I've been able to find information on. APU's course catalog is slightly more appealing, not to mention that text books are included in tuition and they have fewer student fees, I think it would end up being slightly less expensive then ESC. ESC is appealing primarily because it's part of SUNY and I like the concentration options.

I would appreciate any feedback on ESC and APU, especially pertaining to the quality of the education and how willing they are to accept transfer credit. I'm also open to suggestions for other programs to check out.

My wife went through UMUC and had zero problems moving on to an in-residence graduate program at one of the local state schools.

She did the humanities program and did 24 credits worth of history through UMUC.

Thanks for asking! I wish this question would come up more often so I could memorize this whole list the way I've memorized an entire list of master's programs in history (instead of having to consult the distance learning guides).

I'd would choose ESC if I was you. It has a way better reputation and the program is very flexible. You can take half of your classes in other college if you want, so you could still take some classes at APU.

And the price is very good too.

But if you really want the BEST degree available online in History you should look outside the USA and try the University of London External Degree.

It's one of the cheapest and the most prestigious BA in History available online.

The National Labor College www.nlc.edu offers a short-residency BA in Labor Studies with six different concentrations, including Labor History. They are accredited by the Middle States Association.
