Were all California DL law schools invited to apply for DETC accreditation?

Taft says that it was invited to apply for DETC accreditation. I wonder whether other schools, such as Oak Brook, also received the invitation. But so far only Taft is in the process to obtain DETC accreditation.

Isn't being DETC accredited for Taft just for the business school. DETC accreditation for the law school would be an academic exercise at best, since the school would still fall short of ABA guidelines. Just a thought!

My guess would be that Taft couldn't care less about ABA guidelines. They're well aware that they will never qualify. However, where DETC accreditation would serve them well is in marketing their programs. They would be able to say that their law school is accredited which, indeed, it would be.

Would it be ethical to advertise a "legally accredited law school" knowing that some uninformed people might misinterpret this?

Concord's JD program already has DETEC accreditation under a "pilot program" for first professional degrees. DETEC's accreditation of first professional doctoral degrees is not currently recognized by USOE.

While DETEC accreditation may have some marketing value, it does not affect eligibility to sit for bar exams. ABA approval is required by most states. Even regional accreditation is not accepted in lieu of accreditation by ABA.

California correspondence law schools must have state approval, but are not accredited or approved by the State Bar of California, which merely "registers" them.

Still - someone can attend a Concord or Oakbrook college and pass the CA state Bar exam and WALLAH, they are a lawyer! For some people, this may be a reasonable option.

It is a pity to see that Concord, the largest DL law school with around 700 students, has such low baby bar pass rate. However, it looks like Concord has solid financial background. So Concord may last longer than others.
