I will be completling my masters in educational technology and I would like to get a MLIS degree but one that is more technology focused instead of library. So far I found this school, and if you have masters you only have to take 30 credits. http://www.uwm.edu/Dept/SOIS/ any other schools u guys recommend?
Go to this site. This will help a ton. http://www.ala.org/ala/educationcareers/education/accreditedprograms/index.cfm
Are you able to do any residencies in the program or does it need to be 100% via DL? Syracuse and the University of Washington both allow MLIS students to take courses from their Information Systems course catalog as electives allowing for some in depth technology focused degrees. The downside of both of these programs is the cost if you aren't a resident of the state and the residencies that are required a few times a year. Look for MLIS programs that have an "ischool". Those usually are the ones that are more technology focused.
North Carolina Central University has an online masters degree in library science with tracks in information systems. The link is here: http://ariel.acc.nccu.edu/divisionofExtendedStudies/dised/courses.htm
They do and it is good. I will say that for the sake of online discussions, I did not attend NCCU online. I did my library school education face to face ( neither here nor there..just...LOL)
library science MA Hi folks, I'm not getting any younger so I'm interested in getting through an MA in library science as quickly as possible. If I understand their catalog correctly, Drexel has an online MLIS which is about 30 semester units. They are on the quarter system so if my math is right their 45 quarter units convert to 30 point something semester units. Does anyone know of any other online MLIS that is 30 or so units? Also, I was wondering if anyone could venture an opinion about the prospect of having University of Idaho independent study courses at the grad level transfer into an MLIS program. The UI courses are good, but not ALA accredited. I wish I had known 25 years ago that I was interested in library science!! Many thanks, Kavade
Well, I told you to look up the ala.org. Another way to call or email them. I have not heard of MLIS programs being less than 30 hours, but you have to contact each school.
Syracuse University has an online Masters in Library and Information Science that is ALA accredited. Their website claims that most people can complete the masters in 1 to 2 years. The program does have 36 credits: http://suce.syr.edu/students/prospective/degree/index.htm http://ischool.syr.edu/academics/graduate/mls/index.aspx

Well, this is definitely a library science degree, but Rutgers is worth mentioning. This is one of their few degrees you can complete totally online and they are one of the highest ranked LS programs in the nation.
