    Hi all,

I just wanted to find out whether degrees from DETC-accredited schools and other non-regional accrediting agencies recognized by the U.S. department of education are tenable/recognized for work (within the public and private sectors) in the state of Texas.

    Thanks for your inputs.

    Regards

    Sam

They are now, thanks to the efforts of several members of this board and among other people and circumstances that brought about this change...

However I would imagine the private sector, except perhaps for some regulated sectors, are still free to decide whether they recognize a degree or not.

Does this mean that nationally accredited criminal justice degrees will suffice for advancement in a police force or entrance into a Texas police academy?

Probably not, the TCLEOSE who controls licensing has not updated their position last time I checked. Admittedly that was a few months ago but they used to spell out the 6 regional accrediting agencies by name for recognition to advanced peace officer status, etc. Several departments have by default adopted their standards blindly as well and even if licensing agency changes back over, it could be years or even decades before individual departments revisit their policies.
