Affordable UK degrees, other than UoL

I'd like to know if there is any other UK school that offers undergrad degrees at the same price range of University of London?

Most of the UK university that I checked are much more expensive than UoL for non-UK/EU students.

(and, until Spain change their immigration laws, my dad will be Spanish but I won't, so no EU tuition for me...)

So, I'd appreciate any help on this.

I'm sorry but I believe the answer is "no." The University of London is less expensive because they don't actually provide instruction. They provide course materials which you study on your own and then take the test when you're ready. As you clearly know, there are plenty of other British undergraduate degree programs but they are more expensive. As you continue your global search for inexpensive degree programs your next stop should be the Australian universities and then it's on to South Africa.

Well, its seems the Australian universities are as expensive as the the ones in UK - and they don't accept much transfer credits for what I could gather.

But if no UK school is as cheap as UoL, which one would be the second most affordable?

Are you planning to do DL? If so i would recommend you to check out Leicester. They have many DL programs.

We've just had a few threads about U of Wales. IIRC they are among the least expensive.

You're right HwyRogue, I'm brazilian (my undergrad and the "br" in my nick is a giveaway), although I'm living in San Francisco, California right now, where I'm pursuing my MFA (on campus).

SPandalai, I'm aware of University of Leicester and they do have some good programs with affordable prices. But their programs in Communications (the area I'm interested in) are only at the graduate level.

My plan is complete a second BA at the same time that I'm pursuing my on-campus Master. I have the time for that, because Uncle Sam doesn't allow me to work here with only a student visa (I almost went to UK because of that, but I came here anyway, as I like the USA better).

You can earn a second bachelors degree at most USA 4-year colleges/universities by taking 30 or so additional semester units
    - look into the big three - especially Excelsior and COSC.

What subject do you want your second degree in?

But why go for a second bachelor degree when for about the same effort you could earn a masters degree.

I want a BA in Communications or something related (advertising, journalism, marketing communications, etc...).

That's a good question. If we think in American terms, it doesn't really make any sense to complete another BA. By the same price and effort I could complete a MA in Communications or something.

But the fact is that I'm not sure I'll be able to stay in the USA after graduating (which is sad, because I love this country and it's values).

According to currently immigration laws, I'm allowed to stay here working for just one year after I finish my studies. After that I need a H1B Visa, but right now is almost impossible to get one (right now it's basically a lottery, and a very expansive one).

And considering the economical crisis, is very unlikely that President Obama will be able to reform the immigration system as he intends.

So, I'll probably have to go back to Brazil and/or try some European country (UK would be my first choice, because of the language). And the education system in both cases are very different than the USA system.

In Brazil, for example, they give much more value in your undergrad degree because the degrees are very specific. When I say I have a BA in History, is not just 30 credits of History like an american major, it's 120 credits of History courses or History-related courses. Likewise, a BA in Communications would 4 years of study in communications. Pretty much like the Ba (Hons) in UK.

And, they also think it's strange to have a Master degree in a field different from your undergrad degree. For example, I have a friend that has a MBA in Marketing, but she had a very tough time to get a job in Marketing because her BA is in Tourism and Hospitality.

That's what happens in Brazil but I've been talking with some european friends and they say that there the situation is similar, although a little more flexible.

Anyway, that's why I'm thinking about a second bachelor. It's basically a backup thing in the sad case that I have to say good bye to Uncle Sam.

Sorry - I have no suggestions for this degree.

    Have you considered New Zealand?
My niece is emigrating there in June from Eire. I love NZ and think it is a much better place to live than the UK. If my memory is right there are 3 million people, 30 million sheep, and 70 milion possums.
(I was a Brit in my former life and still have family, friends, and acquaintances there).
