I am looking for help to figure this out. I have never qualified for a pell grant because my parents made too much money years ago and I made too much last year in 2007... but 2008 was different.

I just completed my FAFSA for 2009-2010 and my EFC is 2825 which is the lowest it has ever been and I think that may qualify me for a pell grant or at least a partial pell grant. I am not sure how it works and how they determine whether you are eligible or how much you will get. The information on the FAFSA page is sketchy and does not go into any specifics.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks

    Nevermind...

Nevermind... I do not qualify because I am in a post-undergrad degree program...

Only certain post-undergrad degree programs can recieve Pell Grant funds and they are all related to teaching...

    Bummer.
For anyone else, it is up to the college to hand out the money- they are like a filter. You fill out all the paper work, and then the college plugs in their numbers (costs, etc) and you end up not really participating in the process. So, if you apply- and qualify- it will be an automatic credit to your college account.

You may be able to take advantage of one of the several US federal tax breaks available:)
