If the typical requirement to become accredited is that you have graduated 2 years of students, - how is this possible? How can a school start in 2008 and the same year gain accreditation?

I also can't find anything out about them (wiki, news sites etc - assuming if they were good enough to be granted isntant accreditation surely there would be more PR / news?)

    http://www.ellis.edu
Ellis University was founded in 2008 in Chicago, Illinois, with the intent of providing working professional students with a quality education in an online format convenient to their schedule. Ellis was also granted national (DETC) and regional (HLC) accreditation in 2008.

In addition to the link Kizmet posted, I have one update ferrrr ya, Ellis University (not the former Ellis of NYIT) had their regional accreditation upheld, they are still good to go in that respect.:D

However, from what I am getting from some of their students postings is that they do not have the go ahead for Federal Financial Aid yet. This means only military, "self pay" and corporate students can go. I assume this will come at some point, but since this schools' tuition costs quite a bit more than most other schools that paying outright may be hard for most.

But yes they are legit and they are up and running. They do not have a long history of being in existence BUT they do have a great teaching format as well as six weeks classes.

    Your decision;)

I actually like the look of Ellis' PR and Advertising graduate program, and am giving very serious thought to enrolling once I have my BA. Hopefully by then Federal Financial Aid will be on the table for them. There is no way I could pay their tuition otherwise.

Me too, I hope they get it going fast! The issue was they did not foretell the students that decided to go with them after the split of their FFA issues and they were not only POed but had to almost (one I know of for sure) beg to go back with E of NYIT so they could finish his degree program.

That was not cool, lots of new EU students posted about this issue. The BIG problem I have with Cardean/EU is their student services, they quite honestly BLOW! Communication is a big issue with them and I don't know why. How can you let a student on FFA transfer to your "NEW" school and tell them they will now be paying out of pocket for their education, ahhh. Ok, ok I'll stop there, I am just glad I went with NYIT.

If they get it together you will love the teaching format and "most" of the professors I am sure of it.

    Good luck

Just curious - where did/do EU students post about these things? Is it only on their own website forums? Or do they participate in public forums like this?

As an old employee of Cardean/UNext/EofNYIT, I have a morbid curiousity of what students are saying about the place.

From my perspective - it sounds like things haven't changed much - great academic platform and program, bad student services and communication. Some things are hard to change...

Their tuition is super-expensive for not being AACSB or ACBSP accredited !!
You have other very good options(with name recognition) for less than what Ellis charges.

    UMASS
    TAMU Commerce
    UNA

    to name a few

The school forums, but I promote this site every chance I get to, only a few have joined hat I know of.

My Academic Adviser Becky is the best though. The first guy I had was HORRIBLE, he would not suggest classes in my program but just put me in for them and tell me later or I would see it on my student dash board.

The Bursar STINKS, my military TA does not get done for months, so I always have a balance sitting there. It's just things like that..

There is a college review site that has lots of RAW student postings about Cardean I just can't remember the URL!! Ellis of NYIT campus is now run from and by NYIT though. All the big shots are NYIT people and EU is run by Cardean. NYIT does still use the EU professors and format this was decided in court late last year when NYIT sued Cardean (giggles).

I just wonder what the "next newest" name of Ellis University will be, we are at 3 and counting....

Agreed.. If you did not get in when NYIT was "the" school I would probably go there, JMHO.

Thanks. Yes, I'm aware of all the 'drama' at EU. I still have a few friends that work there. It was a stressful, crazy place to work, and I don't think it's changed, from what I hear.

They are legit. The coursework is fair and so are most of the instructors. My academic advisor is great. BUT...

The college itself has no business sense. Stay away from Ellis unless you enjoy tracking down money issues and other standard business items that most staff take care of. You will have everything set up and working smoothly and then suddenly you will be locked out with a financial hold on your account. Who knows why. Processes are not followed or automated.

Other than that, it's a great experience.

LOL, so true. EU has the same instructors as EC-NYIT and they for the most part are pretty good and care about the students.

The admin still stinks to high heaven..

This "good faculty, bad staff" theme is a recurrent one that is showing up more and more often across the country regarding a variety of colleges. I don't know what the problem is (perhaps poor staff pay relative to faculty) but colleges need to address it.

    Administration Concerns

Not to start any political or educational argument... Whenever you have an entity that is propped up by another so that it cannot fail, you remove the motivation to be the best and provide the best service. Why is it important if there is no negative consequence to actions? If we let the academic community stand on their own cognizance I bet things would change and the student would become the main priority (like the product is in a manufacturing environment).

Ellis is not accredited by federal financial aid... Do not go with this school. They stuck us with a huge bill and turned us into a collection agency without any notification. There are better online schools out there. Best of luck.. Ha

I had attended Ellis University for about 9 months and completed 7 courses. I have had a miserably unchallenging and unoriginal experience and since they do not have financial aid, can't even go back there just so I can finish. It's merely waste of time and I was asked to pay cash! I could have gone anywhere and was misled to come here. I advice all students not waste time in this. Check out the HLC disclaimer too. Their accreditation is in jeopardy.
