    Hi All,

My wife is taking the prerequisites for a masters in speech language pathology through Longwood University. However, some of these prereqs have prereqs. She needs to take Bio 101. She never took this as an undergrad. (Neither did I!) She did take a course called Biology of Human Sexuality, but that won't count. She's looking for a way to take this course. Our community college doesn't offer it on campus, and none of the Virginia community colleges offer it online over the summer.

Could anyone suggest a rather inexpensive place to take Bio 101 with the lab online?

And yes, we have talked CLEP, but I think she'd prefer to take a class.

    Thanks,
    Matt

I agree with Magister - my son completed BIO 101 at Clovis last fall and my daughter is currenly enrolled in the course. There is a lab activity that you complete weekly.

There are timed exams that are open book - but you need to have a knowledge of where material is - you can't complete the exams cold.

My kids have enjoyed the class. FTIW - my son earned a B, my daughter currently has an A in the course.

I know you said inexpensive, but check out the school I'm going to use for my science prereqs (the prereqs to my prereqs, I know how she feels!) They have even won awards for their online science courses. I'm looking at my lab pack, and I get a pig! LOL

    Matt,

Make sure you check which course your wife needs. There is often more than one introductory sequence in many biology departments. Often there is a one semester introductory course for non-majors; and a two semester set of courses for majors. The two semester sequence covers the same material; however, it is much more quantitative and rigorous. At the college where I teach the nursing majors only need the one semester non-majors course. Sometimes they will accidentally take the first semester of the majors course. Usually this is not accepted and they have to take the second semester or the one-semester course. it would be a shame for your wife to get caught up in something similar; thus, I would suggest that she confirm which course will satisfy the prerequisite.

My "online labs" consisted of me doing a lot of drawings of cells and such. Also a few field trips to collect leafs and document life in nature.

Where did you take your course(s)? This might be helpful information for the OP.

    Cheers!
