For those interested: I noticed the NCU website said there were new rates for active military, veterans and retirees effective March 1st, but the rates aren't on the website. I emailed the military recruitment director, and this is what he sent me back: I did a screenshot of the rates so I didn't have to mess with making a table.
Not 100% sure; he didn't specifically say since I told him I'm not active or reserve. The director's contact info is on the site here if you'd like to ask.
Not any changes from this released rates in February 2009 for the rest of the students. For LEO, Military, and Government before it was $285 per credit and then it went to $315 per credit now is $560. Unless I am missing something, not much benefits for public servants.
The doctoral and masters rate is $450; it's the value on the bottom row of the table. I didn't catch it at first either, but the table shows the normal rate, the scholarship amount, and the difference is the rate for the qualified student.
The NCU law enforcement discount cost me $865.00 for each 3-credit doctoral class. Tuition was extremely inexpensive back then, but that was immediately after they achieved regional accreditation; the tuition has continually climbed since then. It invariably had to -- and it will continue to climb until the costs are equivalent to Capella, Walden and all the other online universities.
I figure by the time I'm ready to even consider a distance terminal degree (2011-ish), the rates will force me to get creative... Hopefully by then there will be more choices...
It might have been for $855 per class back when I was enrolled. The numbers are starting to fade... But I really did get a bargain. I only paid 21k for a doctorate at NCU, but my out-of-pocket cost was only about 10k, due to my employers tuition reimbursement program. I was blessed all the way around, from a financial perspective. In retrospect, I slipped through the cracks. It's a miracle all around. I can't freaking believe I have a doctorate. The stars were right and the moon was right and I was in the right place at the right time and... it's a freaking miracle.
Well, I got you beat! Not to brag or anything, because you are done and that is more important than anything, mine will be a little over $17k and only out of pocket $4,500(which includes the books, dissertation fee, editors etc....). Believe it you are Dr. Me again!!
