    HIST 523 Railroad History

I spoke to my advisor today and she said registration would open in 3 days.

Edit - I should add that I am VERY stoked for this course. We are working on a project in my county to bring rail back, I have a great deal of local history compiled and had wondered what I might do with it lol.

World Politics: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly.

This should be a really fun class.

HIST 514 History of the Southwest and HIST 523 Railroad History both look good, if I can get (re-)acceptance for both admissions and financial aid this summer. Where does one find info on the course books?

I'm at WNMU now, and I think I might be done with them after this. I'm so fed up with these stupid due date schedules I'm about to pull my hair out. I'd like to take the World Politics course, but after 2 courses with Dr. Manzanarez, I don't think I'll be able to handle it.

I'm pretty sure I'm switching back to APU. Sure, they're more expensive, but at least I know what to expect.

It doesn't appear that the courses for the Summer are listed in the bookstore yet. I too am curious as what books are used for the Railroad course. I'm surprised AMU doesn't have a similar course on Railroad History.

I'll be done with them as of the 15th of this month. Last night I had 4 assignments due and only 4 days to do them in. They were busy work BS assignments and I don't mean "BS" as in Bachelor of Science. We're talking chapter summaries and crap.

I know the prof. gives the assignment due dates like that so he can have a weekend off, which is probably yet another argument for using adjuncts instead of full time classroom professors unless they can dedicate the necassary time to facilitate actual learning and not simply piles of paper.

Personally I've been pretty disgusted by WNMU all around from enrollment to when I officially drop out next week. I'm not going to even try to finish the semester. I officially don't give a rip anymore.

    But you all enjoy...:)

That's too bad. The best thing about distance learning for me is the ability to work on my own schedule. At Penn State I still have due dates but they are clearly outlined from the beginning of the semester. I can work with that. I would have a hard time with an assignment springing up out of nowhere on a Tuesday that is due 48 hours later.

I really like WNMU. The two classes I am taking are quite interesting. Even at the halfway point in the semester I can say that I have already learned a lot. At every school there is likely some professor that can be disagreeable to someone. I've encountered this with both face-to-face and distance learning. To leave an entire program just because you don't like how one prof teaches seems silly. If I had done that with my past degrees I would have never finished a single one.

I agree, however, it seems that this one professor does most of the polysci courses. I'm just wondering how he would be in a 4 week summer class. Because I'll be off during the summer, I might just bite the bullet and go with the course. However, that'll depend on what grade I get in these courses. Like I said, I have no idea what my grades are so far.

I seriously tempted by this railroad history course. One of the areas I'm contemplating writing a thesis or dissertation down the road involves railroad history.

Does anyone have an opinion as to the course description? I'm not sure how true to word WNMU descriptions are but this actually seems more like a business course than a history course. In fact, it's also cross listed with the Business/Public Admin and Economics departments.

HIST/BSAD/ECON 523. Railroad History: Case Study in America's First Big Business. Case study of an American industry, from conception to present, to
develop historically based critical thinking skills to identify and anticipate trends in technology, financing, supply, labor-relations, society, human geography, government relations, and economic development with particular attention to the legal and regulatory environment. (3)

    Fall Courses?

Does anyone who has prior experience with WNMU have an idea when they'll release the fall courses?

    Thanks,
    Matt

I've applied to them, but have heard nothing. I'm applying to take two summer English classes. From your comments, this sounds normal however do you have any tips for getting this process rolling?

    Thanks!

Get in touch with Katherine Warren ([email protected]). I do not know her exact title; she has something to do with the virtual campus. I applied three days after the Fall semester started and she got me enrolled. She was extremely helpful.

Very helpful and very courteous. She is/was one of the main reasons I decided to keep moving forward with taking courses here.
