I am running out the door, but I will do some online research later. Does anyone have knowledge of refinery plant licensing in CA? There is an at-risk youth I am trying to help. If there is some kind of State of CA test for the refinery fields, we could perhaps find some funding stream for this young man. He seem to have potential, and I have been slowly making him see the need for long term goals like a 4 year degree. Right now I am just glad to see him with a goal, other than rap or drug dealing. If anyone has some idea about this, feel free to post about it. Thanks, Abner
Yes, but it is about 350 miles away from where you are: http://www.losmedanos.edu/departments/ptech/default.asp
Certain key individuals probably need to be Professional Engineers. But the industry needs a wide variety of skills. Coastline CC, in Orange County, CA, offers courses in Process Technology by DL http://dl.coastline.edu/coursewebsites/ptec.cfm They also offer a certificate program Quote from the Coastline catalog The courses offered to obtain this certificate will give the students the basic skills needed to obtain a position as a Processing Technician within a variety of industrial fields. Process technology involves every aspect of chemical processing: extracting and refining chemicals such as oil and natural gas, refining them, and monitoring.
Thanks Ian and Kari. I am going to pass this along, and see if this young mans tuition can be paid for through some type of workstudy program. If not, I will confer with some colleagues to get this young man started in life. Thanks man! Abner
