I am in the prelim stages of looking at a Research program(me)working through an Australian school. There are several threads discussing relative merits of US schools, but I was wondering if any of our Oz members could give some guidance as to their schools. I am particularly interested in U of Qld, U of Syd, and Curtin University of Technology? ------------------ M. C. (Mike) Albrecht, PE
I'm not an Australian, but an outsider looking in. Queensland and Sydney are traditional top-tier universities, known throughout the world. Curtin was formerly Western Australian Institute of Technology, and I would say is comparable to the UK Polytechnics that were originally established to provide technical education of an applied (rather than fundamental) nature, but that have now broadened into fully-fledged (but not particularly prestigious) universities. But I know far more about the UK system than about the Australian system, so perhaps I am grasping at analogies that are really not valid.
The wizards of OZ frequently refer to the Good Universities Guides (http://www.thegoodguides.com.au/) as an excellent source.
