Just a note to let y'all know that I just completed my BSL and JD (non-bar) from NWCU law school. I switched to the non-bar program after I couldn't pass the baby bar (there's nothing baby about it). It then became a matter of finishing what I started. Two things I learned: I have somewhat of an aptitude for the law but it's not my passion, and as I'm somewhat older I need more time to study at my own pace. Oh well, thanks to all of you for your inspiration and Nosborne if you're still out there a salute to you.

Good job Sideman!!!! I get such a great feeling when someone posts the completion of their degree. Go out and celebrate with friends or family, and have a great time, you deserve it.

    Hi sideman,

Nearly two years ago, you mentioned that you almost got kicked out of the school because of the poor GPA. I am glad that you eventually were able to pull it off. How many times did you take the Baby Bar before you finally decided to switch to the non-bar program?

    Excellent!

JFK Jr. (RIP) had trouble passing the bar and failed twice and after a third attempt he passed. Good luck to you. BTW Nosborne hangs out the degreediscussion forum.

You do get sick of being examined. Life and learning is more than examinations. Older heads question the wisdom of pressure based exam processes. They are not reflective of how the real world operates.

I have yet to see a lawyer act on memory (I have seen many at close range). They have the cases with them and marked up. They have paralegals to get the cases for them. They also have the relevant texts, if appropriate, with them. They are not experts on all areas of law either. I can understand why medical practitioners need to carry the information in their head for instanteous action, but lawyers should and do have time to access reference work. It is more analytical than memory.

You have your degree and you will have grown through the experience. Unfortunately, we often cannot see the growth in ourselves, but others do. Your school has a very good reputation and does not give the degrees away. You obviously know your stuff. Congratulations!

    Hi SSHUANG

You have a good memory and degreeinfo has a good search engine. I took the baby bar once after my first year. This was my original downfall when I had the low GPA. I had studied for the baby bar while also doing my first and second year studies as well. It was just too much. I decided it would be best to bear down on my studies and raise my GPA the last two years otherwise I'd have nothing to show for my work, even if I passed the baby bar. I can always take the baby bar again but I'd have to start as a 2L again. We'll see.

Anyways, thanks to the longtime posters for the congrats.

    Hi sideman,

I know the program is rigorous, and you worked hard for the degrees. No offense, but can you put your non-bar BSL and JD on your resume without being questioned? I am thinking of obtaining an executive JD to boost up my resume as well; however, I don’t know if the potential employers will treat it as a form of deceit since the degree is unaccredited.

isn't it funny that CA is the only state in USA that allows non-accredited institutions to offer a JD and yet he could opt to take up the bar and practice law in CA state alone if he wanted to. The only catch is he cannot practice law out of CA and should he travel to say Washington state or something, he will be sidelined aside and could not even stand to get an employment as a para legal clerk or administrator like say a post of a Compliance officer.

    Hi Sshuang:

No offense taken. Without getting into a long drawn out discussion of the attributes of accreditation or not, I did what I did knowing what I was getting into. Being a full time entrepreneur I knew that even night school law school could not fit my needs. The ABA does not accredit online law schools so any lawyer that 100% backs the ABA would not hire me. That said, I wouldn't want to work for a firm that would lack seeing an alternative argument to the ABA's stance. Not only would it show how hierarchical they are but I would question their ability to weigh things in a lawyerlike fashion. I believe in full disclosure so on my resume I'll put that the degrees are California state approved and the school is registered with the bar, which it is. When or if I sell my business and seek employment I'll look for a medium sized business that could use someone with my business and law knowledge. I've always tried to think in a forward fashion and will seek a like mind to work for.
