    Hellow everybody,

I am wodering if anyone knows about how unaccredited transfers go these days. I have just earned my undergraduate degree from non-accredited institution and I am trying to get an info.

I found couple of adds on the forum but that looked like an old piece. What are the chances available to those guys like me. Please help.

My first thought is that you're probably out of luck. There will be no transfered credits and you'll likely have to start all over again if you want an accredited degree. However, I have to say that I don't really know that this is true. It may depend on which unaccredited school gave you the credits and which accredited school you'd like to transfer them to. If you've actually done some substantial work then you may be able to translate that into portfolio credit at one of the schools that does such things.

Where is the degree from and what did you major in? That would be a good starting point for assistance.

    A Bachelor's degree

    Thanks Shawn,

It is a Bachelor's degree in political science from Madison University in Mississippi. I found out that it is not accredited nationally or regionally. I am seriously looking for help to have this accredited in the world of politics.

    Thanks again

    Ashkir,

You won't be able to do anything with that degree, you will have to start from scratch, to avoid future embarrassment, I would not even talk about this degree for employment or even try to transfer their credits. In a way this school is considered a diploma mill. I am not insinuating that you did not do actual work but the school has been label as a mill. You can read some information here: http://www.osac.state.or.us/oda/diploma_mill.html and http://www.osac.state.or.us/oda/unaccredited.aspx

    Best of luck!

    Alas, Vinipink is right.

If you actually learned stuff at Madison, then that learning could be very helpful in taking CLEP, DANTES, and other exams with less new preparation.

And of course if you have life experience learning that Madison gave credit for, other schools might do the same: things like 2nd language skills, military courses, company courses, aviation licenses, etc.

But the Madison degree or credits have a near-zero chance of being accepted, per se, at a school with recognized accreditation.

As an aside -- I just revisited the Madison website (madisonu.org), where I found this fine line: "The University is not not listed with any government agency or the U.S. Department of Education." Now we'll see if they read this forum, and how long it will take to fix this howler.

Thank you, Alas and Vinipink. That was really very decissive.

What would hapen if I took the exam you mentioned ? How less preparation is it ? And bytheway, is there any chance that I can re-do some of the stuff to show them confidence and go to the next ?

Well, there are some of the way to get credit. Thomase Edison State College accept FEMA credits, PLA credits (if you learned from Madison University, then you should do this to get credit). If you completed your general education, then CLEP on U.S History, Western Civilization, Government, Maths, Businesses, Science, and Social Sciences. You should check out the big three.

    Thanks Tekman,

Do you mean by taking CLEP, I would get credit for what I have learnt and continue my dream of getting higher ( master's program) ?

What if I boost my courage and get ready for exam fo what I leant at Madison University, or alteast partially ?

Sorry, I am trying to get myself on track

Tekman is right - you could take what you have learned and through credit by examination earn credits.

Lawrie Miller has a great website "BA in four weeks" - which goes through how it is possible to earn a BA quickly solely through credit by examination.

Also, don't discount the portfolio option. Ohio University also does portfolio evaluation and I believe this is less expensive than the "Big 3". You could then transfer the eval to one of the "Big 3" schools.

You have been given some good advice here. Act like you never even heard of Madison University.

BAin4weeks.com should become your Bible. Read it, learn it, live it. If you are a good test-taker, you could quickly test your way out of the credits needed for a BA in Business at one of the Big Three.
