Does anyone know of a school offering a DL master's degree in Celtic Christianity/Spirituality?

    Michael,
It appears that the University of Wales, Lampeter has just the program you seek:

Indeed! In my opinion, this program is without question the best program on Celtic Christianity/Spirituality available anywhere. I'm not sure if Fiona Bowie and Oliver Davies are still at the helm of this program, as they were for quite some time. However, these two are leading authorities in the field of Celtic Christianity/Spirituality. They have published some significant material on this subject.

From what I gather, the residency requirements for this program are quite flexible. If I remember correctly, one five-day session in residence is usually required. However, I'm not sure its ABSOLUTELY required. Yet, the St. David's campus in Lampeter is quite beautiful. A week there certainly wouldn't be torturous. (I know it's been said here before, but the Lampeter campus of the University of Wales, formerly St. David's College, founded in 1822, is the oldest university-level institution in England and Wales after Oxford and Cambridge)

This is taken from the aforementioned website:
What are the modes of delivery for the MA?

    • For full-time students the MA is normally studied during a one year (two terms) period of residence in Lampeter. A combination of residence and distance teaching may also be possible.

    • For part-time students the course may be studied in distance or part-residence. A handbook with lecture notes and reading lists is provided for all part-time students. The student will normally complete six assignments over a period of two years and then a dissertation of 20,000 words. For part-time students who wish to, or are in a position to, attend some classes, a series of short residential, weekend and summer schools is provided.

As the MA is a taught degree, the student may expect to have close contact with the teaching staff, whether by attendance at some or all of the teaching sessions or, in the case of those who cannot for various reasons travel to these sessions, through visits to Lampeter at other times (by prior arrangement) or by correspondence, telephone or email. A certain amount of selected reading material is provided for students, which may be accessed by mail, and we will seek to put you touch with relevant libraries where they may be close at hand.

It appears that this degree could be completed entirely at a distance.

Thanks, Steven and CL; this appears to be a fine program. I don't believe I could afford the tuition, though, at the present time.

Yes, when all is said and done, it looks as though this could end up being more expensive than the Spurgeon's program.

No problem, Michael. Make sure you let the forum know when you've found the program that meets all your needs. After my MBA is completed with Touro, I have decided to return to seminary and complete an MDiv (or maybe an M.A.T.S.). I'm always looking for new ideas to reflect upon.

    Thanks!

I wonder if one of the South African schools could tailor a program in Celtic Christianity for me. Any opinions?

    Thanks!
