As of right now my plan is to finish a BGS degree in Technology Leadership and Management at Roger Williams University. I am currently taking Jazz and U.S. History Since 1877 at Fort Hays State. I decided on RWU because they accepted a ton of my credits. The thing is I really want to jump into web design, web development, internet marketing, and graphics design; this is where my heart is. I have an A.A.S. in Electrical Technology and certificates in Diesel Mechanics and Industrial Maintenance from a local community college. If I stick with RWU, I will need to finish up a couple general education classes, and then take the 30-hrs of industrial related upper-level classes that the program requires. I would then look into a graduate certificate or masters program related to e-business. Today I feel like I should look into an e-business associates degree program and finish my bachelors later. I have even thought about going with a bachelor at a NA school. I like the freedom that this type of school would give me. My work schedule can get crazy at times and a program at a NA school would allow me the extra time to finish my coursework if needed. The whole NA vs RA thing is not a problem with me. I just wanted to ask you guys for some input. I am in a hurry so I’m sorry if this thread is all over the place. I have to work the 5pm-5am night shift and will check in later.
My two recomendatios are: (1) Stick with your BGS plan at RWU - perhaps you can find some e-business courses to include as electives. You already have an associates degree so a BGS will beat out another associates degree with most hirers. (2) Look at the bachelor degree options offered by the big three (Excelsior, TESC, and COSC); again you are free to include e-business courses as electives. TESC has a 12 unit certificate in E-Commerce http://www.tesc.edu/2205.php You could enquire to see if these units can be transferred to a TESC bachelor degree. A RA degree (or certificate) beats out an NA degree in the vast majority of cases at the bachelor degree level.
My goal is to start a e-business, so my reason for going back to school is all about me learning skills that will benefit me. That's why I mentioned the NA schools. I have thought about enrolling in a few Penn Foster certificate programs. They have a internet marketing certificate that may benefit me. I also like a few other business related certificates that they offer. I could then look at AMU to finish up with. I'm guessing they would take those credits since the are NA and RA accredited.
Here's that old thread on E-Commerce degrees: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29107 .
My problem is I'm ready to get into the e-business classes. Maybe I should take a time out and work on that first. I can always fo back and get the other stuff done. I will look for a few more undergraduate certificate programs that don't require a bachelor degree. I can take some web development classes at FHSU, but I need to find a program with more internet marketing classes.
