I read this book the other day and I don't put too much stock in it (most of it anyway). There are acceptions and I do think there is validity to some of the statements made in the book concerning what college or higher learning is or has become.

It's interesting and a bit distressing to say the least; are we programmed, are we cattle?

Maybe, but the stray usually gets hit by a truck.

Well that is the good thing about research like this. You can summarily dismiss that which does not already validate your thinking. You think college can help you get ahead? Don't read the book. Would not want to challenge the status quo. Especially if it goes against what you are spending a lot of time and money on a differing approach.

That book has given me an entrepreneurial idea, which I'm sure has been done plenty in the past. I'm going to take a mainstream institution or product; say processed foods, online video gaming, car insurance, or gasoline engines, and research every negative spin I possibly can on those topics and write some books about it. Not only will I provide a service to those with a need to feed their middle-aged angst or the everyday conspiracy theorist, but fund my quarterly vacations to various scuba locations. The research and writing skills I have learned from my higher education will help me in this endeavor, greatly.

I'm just kidding; I'm sure there are some great points against education practices in various cultures, but until I get that million dollar idea I need to pay the bills somehow, and having that bachelor of science opened more doors for me than my high school diploma or even military service did. I know I'm not genius enough to be an Einstein, Carnegie, or Ford, so modern schooling is the best shot I got at making ends meet until I invent the next disruptive technology or process.

For the tax-payers who funded most of my education, don't worry; I have made a vow that after I make my first million, I'll pay the government back what I have received in G.I. bill money. After the second million I'll include the interest!

I assumed she meant stray cattle get hit by a truck since they're not in a pack.
