Bachelors of Applied Science to MBA/MS

Hi,

I'm currently an apprentice in the plumbers/pipefitters union and I do HVAC work. When I become a journeyman, I will have an AAS in A/C Technology. There is a college in Michigan (Ferris State) that offers a BAS in HVAC Engineering Technology online. I'm interested in earning this degree, but I wanted to know if any graduate schools allow admission into their program with a BAS degree rather than a regular BS or BA.

I would prefer an MS in Construction Management, but an MBA would be okay as well.

I would appreciate your input.

 

Always possible, but certain prerequisites foundation courses such as Introductiion to Business, Introduction to Marketing, Principles of Managment and etc. Just looking at the MBA program via distance learning at Texas A&M University. So, when you admitt to the MBA program, they require you to complete these courses before starting the MBA curriculum.

 

Some programs, such as the Edinburgh Business School distance learning MBA, don't require a BA at all. Of course, they are in the minority, but it is possible.

 

There is a similar set up re Foundation courses at UMass also.

 

Since your preference is an MS (Construction Management) having a BAS (HVAC) will not likely be a hinderence. As for the MBA, if nationally accredited meets your needs, Aspen University does not require prerequisite business courses at the undergraduate level.

 

I am in the same program. They do not require you to finish pre-reqs before starting the core courses. I am almost done with the program but have not finished any pre-reqs yet.

 

Northern Arizona University offers a Master of Administration in Construction Management. The website doesn't say anything about prereq's. The price is pretty attractive, too, at just over $400 per semester hour.

I also found construction programs at East Carolina University, Western Carolina University, and Arizona State. They say nothing of prereq's but do require either the GRE or GMAT.

 

I don't think you will have any problem finding an MBA or MS. Different schools have different prereqs depending on the program. Many traditional programs will have zero prereqs for their MBA, but an accelerated or part-time program might. UF has an online MS in International Construction Management would take someone with a BAS.

Is the above the program the one you mentioned? They say it's a Bachelor of Science, and not a Bachelor of Applied Science. I thought my degree was similar, since I went to SIU's college of Applied Science, but my degree ended up being a Bachelor of Science as well. You should contact the school to confirm, but it looks like it's a BS degree and not a BAS.
