From $40 to $70 per credit hour.

The college board approved the increase Tuesday, raising tuition for New Mexico residents to $32 from $30 per credit hour. The average class is worth three credits.

The increase is higher for out-of-state students, going from $40 a credit hour to $70. Out-of-state students make up 19 percent of the college’s total enrollment - many taking distance classes online.

Three possible explanations: (1) decreased public funding for San Juan State College necessitates tuition increase for non-state-residence students, or (2) market forces at work as demand for the product (courses) increases the price/cost to purchase the product (courses) increases, or (3) simple greed. I think the first and second explanations address reality.
