    Dear all,
Happy holidays to everyone, before I posted this I went ahead and read the discussion regarding the famous UOP (university of phoenix) which I’m in right now.
I have finished around 75 hours in management and as you all may know bachelor degrees from UOP are ACBSP accredited but the reputation of UOP MAY be a problem when it comes to MBA or future jobs.
    My question is:
Does anyone know a person who toke a bachelor in business with UOP and then was accepted in a 1st tier university (AACSB accredited), if yes, what is the name of the university?
Also I was contemplating moving to Champlain collage to finish my bachelor degrees in business, and advice on that?
Thank you for your feedback, cheers

There is no a shadow of a doubt that you will be much better of with a degree from champlain.
The UOP brand name is so tainted and is viewed negatively...
I know that some will disagree with me because of XYZ...
But this is just the overall impression right or wrong...
I wouldn't taking a chance, you've invested a lot so far don't let the brand name ruin it...
    Good Luck

Opinions are like, well you know, everyone has one. Opinions may be supported by fact - or not. Naysayers comment about UOP being "tainted," and if it is tainted in their opinion, well that is nothing of real value in your quest.

    This is what counts, period:

Contact the universities you are interested in attending and ask them, first hand. No opinions, no prejudicial filtering, just the facts will come out - do they accept UOP, or not.

I taught for a regionally accredited school that had graduates go on to AACSB graduate programs and this school did not have ACBSP. The grades were there and so was the ability.

Hi hiigara - It seems clear that those folks are steering you away from Phoenix. I don't mind saying that I'm not a big fan of Phoenix but my reasons have more to do with my learning style, their costs and my aversion to their advertising methods than anything else. I don't know that anyone can produce hard evidence that you are at a disadvantage by applying to a grad school with a Phoenix Bachelors degree. I think that Jim gave you some good advice. Make a few calls to the grad schools that you might be considering. Ask them what they think. My guess is that if you've got good grades from an RA school then it doesn't matter much what the name of that school might be. There are other alternatives but if you're having a good experience, if you feel like you're learning what you want/need to learn and if you can afford the pricetag then you should feel good about your choice.

BTW - I'd give the same advice regardless of whether it was Phoenix, Peru, APU or any of the other RA schools that get big mention on these boards.

Thank you all for you’re feedback,

Actually there is another reason why I’m hesitated regarding Champlain collage, the bachelor business degree is not accredited by any board but the MBA is accredited by the AACSB, is that actually passable?
I sent an email to them but they didn’t reply yet

Also, I know that Champlain college is better them UOP when it comes to reputation, but how about Champlain collage its self ? Is there anything I should be warred about? Really appreciate the help :)

On the AACSB website, Champlain is not listed as a school accredited in business or as a school accredited in accounting.

The fact that a school may only have its grad program accredited by AACSB is not particularly negative. The schools that only have their graduate programs accredited by AACSB include:

    University of California, Davis
    University of California, Irvine
    University of California, Los Angeles
    The University of Chicago
    Columbia University
    Dartmouth College
    Duke University
    Harvard University
    London Business School
    Northwestern University
    Rice University
    University of Rochester
    Stanford University
    Thunderbird School of Global Management
    Vanderbilt University
    Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School
    Yale University

I also note that Champlain's MBA accreditation page makes no mention of AACSB, ACBSP, or IACBE , and Champlain is not listed as an accredited program by any one of those three business school accreditors.

That's a bit misleading....at least four of those schools (Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, & Columbia) don't offer any undergraduate business programs.

Champlain is ranked 12 as per US news (tier 1 college) and has no credited business degree!?
That means UOP is better than Champlain after all, from a business degree point of view, I can’t believe that!! Not to mention UOP has not ranking what so ever by US news

Several of the preceeding comments talked about the negative aspects of UoP degrees.
I'm not a big fan of UoP but in my former job with a top US company there was no prohibition or problem on hiring UoP graduates. In fact some UoP classes were held at my employers facilities (great for DOD related courses such as C/SCSC). I worked with two types of UoP degree holders; those who already had a BS or masters degree (all of whome I found very competant), and people attending UoP local campuses to earn their BS in business (quite often office assistants hoping to advance in the company - and several did do so). I mentored two of the latter group in statistics and believe me their courses were tough.
The one thing UoP students told me they liked best about UoP was the convenient times and locations of classes (and I have to agree - I used to drive an hour each way to CSUDH to take a 50 minute class twice a week).
Perhaps in Southern California UoP is more immune to negative criticism than other parts of the country.

The fact that UoP has business accreditation and Champlain doesn't does not make a UoP business degree better....not by any wild stretch of the imagination. Many schools don't have any form of business accreditation. That doesn't necessarily mean that their business degrees are not any better or worse than those that do.

Given the two choices, Champlain beats UoP hands down.

I had no idea. I knew that Thunderbird was a graduate school, but I didn't realize about the others. I looked and found that of the schools that I listed, only UC Irvine and UCLA have any undergrad business programs.

    My 2 cents...

If the GMAT score is high enough, as long as you have an accredited Bachelors you should be OK...

The reason I knew is my sister-in-law is a Harvard MBA, and she told me none of the Ivy schools offer business at the undergrad level.

But some do offer undergraduate degrees in economics, finance, and management. I guess they want to get graduates back in to their business schools for graduate work. Interesting, thanks for sharing Bruce.

Interestingly, most businesses prefer degrees from more than one place. Too inbred if all are from the same set of profs. That is why most Universities lean toward hiring from other comparable universities.
