    Not really distance learning related but I thought it interesting and felt the people here would as well. This guy has been busy!

    "Griffin received a bachelor's degree in physics from Johns Hopkins University; a master's degree in aerospace science from Catholic University of America; a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland; a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California; a master's degree in applied physics from Johns Hopkins University; a master's degree in business administration from Loyola College; and a master's degree in Civil Engineering from George Washington University."

    I bet they were paid by his employer, aka the government, aka us the taxpayers ;)

    All but three of his degrees pre-date government service. As a rule the government will not pay for degrees not needed or unrelated to your position. They also will not pay for degrees for advancement (except interns and such who incur government service). I would suspect due to his position he self funded two of the three degrees and that the government might have paid for his MBA. I also imagine he took a pay cut to come to work for the government.

    But, the government will pay up to $60,000 towards student loans if they need you.

    Astronaut Musgrave - six degree

    One of my favorite astronauts was Story Musgrave - one less degree than Griffen:
    "EDUCATION: Graduated from St. Mark's School, Southborough, Massachusetts, in 1953; received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and statistics from Syracuse University in 1958, a master of business administration degree in operations analysis and computer programming from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1959, a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from Marietta College in 1960, a doctorate in medicine from Columbia University in 1964, a master of science in physiology and biophysics from the University of Kentucky in 1966, and a master of arts in literature from the University of Houston in 1987."

    My favorite astronaut (back when kids could memorize all their names) was Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, just because I liked his nickname.

    He only earned two degrees, but they are impressive; a B.S. from West Point and a D.Sc. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His dissertation on space docking procedures was used by NASA in designing the Apollo spacecraft.

    And just to validate my childhood choice of him as my favorite astronaut, you have to love a 70+ year-old American hero defending his integrity against some whacko conspiracy nut job with a solid, and well-deserved, punch in the kisser;

    I had the pleasure of working with DARPA many years ago (tactical/strategic communications). These guys are one of the most "Dr" heavy organizations I know of in the government.

    I take the "You work for the government?" disdain pretty well, but I like the fact that I get to work with folks who represent some of the best and brightest.

    Wow, that's quite a punch for a little guy to a reporter who seems to be seven feet tall. He has a good bone structure, as is evidenced by the punch. :eek:

    None of the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo astronauts were very tall; they were all fighter pilots, and those cockpits aren't very big.
