Hello Everyone I'm Jayson and feel excited to have FINALLY joined this board. I'm an Veteran but my assistance will never cover school cost. January I"ll be finished with my AABA from AIU online and I'm considering Big 3 for BA/BS because I need a bachelors in any concentration for my job Quickly. Unfortunately I'm overseas so I can't take CLEP.

After researching the board I have a plan but need just a bit of assistance:
My current IT certifications are Comptia A+ and Network+, MCSA, CCNA.
    Classes taken from AUI:
    BUS105 Business and Society 6.0
    MKT255 Fundamentals of Marketing 6
    ENG105 English Composition 4.0
    CSM101 Computer Applications 4
    PSY206 Aspects of Psychology 6
    MTH133 College Algebra 4
    BUS230 International Business 6
    ART205 Art Appreciation 4
    SCI206 Biology 4
    FIN110 Personal Finance Concepts 6
    ACG230 Introduction to Accounting 6
    BUS207 Business Ethics 6
MGT240 Business Management and Leadership 6
    ACG230 Introduction to Accounting 6
BUS255 Fundamentals of Business Law 6
    CSM220 Computer Concepts 6
CSM240 Introduction to Operating System In 6
    CSM260 Relational Database Concepts 6

Possible choices for BS/BA(if anyone knows any more please assist)
COSC BS in Individualized Studies (Technology and Business)
TESC BS in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness
    EXCELSIOR BS in Liberal Arts.

I ask with the above AABA and certifications would I receive ANY benefit from the use of FEMA/NFA courses?

    I also have college credits from Saint Leo University;

    ECO 201 Macroeconomics 3
    ECO 202 Microeconomics 3
SSC 102 The Global Perspective 3
    COM 130 PC Applications 3

Help from anyone who has experience with the "Big 3" or any school that might be able to provide some guidane. Honestly when people are quiet it makes me "regret" getting an AABA(expensive) from AIU online.

    Thank you,

    Jayson

FEMA course and some National Fire Academy courses might be of benefit to someone getting a degree from the "Big 3", depending on what program they were pursuing. Most likely will be used as electives. Thomas Edison State College being the best school in which to use these courses.

Some of your personal information does raise some questions. You say you are overseas. Where? Are you a US citizen? There are some enrollment requirements for FEMA courses.

You say you are a veteran? A veteran of what? Why can you not take CLEP overseas? Cannot US veterans take CLEPS at a military base?

Thanks for the information. I'm currently in Thailand with my wife who is from here. I used my MGIB for the AIU online classes but classes from this school can add up to alot. It seems like they are over $2k a class.

Can you recommend a degree program where my credits including FEMA will grant me the most credit?

The program that will probably give the most use of FEMA Independent Study courses is the BSHS in Emergency Disaster Services at Thomas Edison State College.

The program that will probably give you the most overall use of your credits is one of the degrees at Thomas Edison State College, other than the BSHS in Emergency Disaster Services. See the complete list to start comparing programs and your credits.

Excelsior would also give you some good options for a degree, but they tend to be a pain when it comes to FEMA credits. I got to use them, but others have been denied. I had to first get the FEMA credits on a TESC transcript and then transfer them to Excelsior.

The National Fire Academy courses Q118 and Q318, unlike the FEMA IS courses, are rated by the American Council on Education and will be good at almost any college. TESC also gives credit for Q534, which is not ACE rated. TESC gives one semester hour each for Q118, Q318 and Q534.

Thank you for all your help in this matter. I kind of like what TESC/Excelsior programs are saying. Even though I have the AABA it still looks like I'll have to take a few extra Gen Ed classes but this looks like no problem.

Also I was doing some research on the board and I'm going to look into transferring my FEMA to CCC just in case Excelsior won't accept them through TESC.

I can almost see the light at the end.

Here's a crazy out of the box solution...

Fly to Malaysia and take several CLEP's there

    http://apps.collegeboard.com/cbsearch_clep/searchCLEPTestCenterResults.jsp?searchCategory_country=Malaysia&DBACTION=SEARCH_TC&clepSearchType=International&x=56&y=10

... a R/T ticket to from Thailand to Malaysia is $336.

    http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll

    ...and rooms start at $31/night.

    http://www.hoteltravel.com/search/hotels.aspx

You could also make arrangements with Excelsior College to have the ECE exams proctored by the same agent that administers the CLEP...

    https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/Excelsior_College_Examinations/Registering_for_Excelsior_College_Exams

Granted this is way out of the box...but you could take several exams in a couple of days and speed your time to degree... (since you stated you were looking to complete quickly)

    Wow Shawn!

It's not that crazy at all. I was looking at doing something of that nature for IT specific programs. This board is amazing! I really don't know how I could have done it without everyone's help. I'm going to compute some apartment rates there and call the local embassy for Visa Information.
