First I want to say I never really attended college after high school, well I did for a couple classes (9 years ago) but never took it serious and here I am 28 with way to much time on my hands. I am interested in a B.S in business on line degree.

The past few weeks I have some what narrowed it down to California Coast University and Excelsior. I would like to know the differences between both schools coarse work. I know CCU is NA and Excelsior is RA which I really don't fully understand. I am not sure I really care though, its a bit confusing. I am leaning towards CCU at the moment. I like the idea it's self paced, not sure about Excelsior? Please if anyone else has advice on any other school I should look into RA OR NA please comment.

Differences Between Regional Accreditation and National Accreditation: The six regional accreditation agencies are older than the national accreditation agencies. The six regional accreditation agencies are also generally considered more prestigious. Although there was some law passed about the transferrability of credits, many regionally accredited schools are reluctant to accept nationally accredited credits and degrees for transfer purposes and graduate school applications. Plus, many employers won't acknowledge nationally accredited degrees as valid credentials. So, the nationally accredited degrees may have a more limited utility than regionally accredited degrees. Perhaps this situation of more limited utility may change in the future, but you might want to check with a future employer, graduate school, professional licensure agency, etc., to see if a nationally accredited degree will meet your needs.

Differences Between California Coast University and Excelsior College: California Coast University's www.calcoast.edu is, as you say, self-paced. Excelsior College www.excelsior.edu is known as one of the Big Three of distance education (the other two are Charter Oak State College www.cosc.edu and Thomas Edison State College www.tesc.edu). Their model is to accept large amounts of transfer credit, external challenge exams (AP, CLEP, DANTES, GRE, TECEP), their own challenge exams (TECEP), and their own course work.
