    Hello,

I plan on taking some distance learning courses at one of the many CA Community Colleges to satisfy lower-level requirements.

After doing some research, it seems that couple of CC in particular are recommended for their distance learning courses.

    - Coastline
    - De Anza (although technically not part of the CA CC system)

I looked at Santa Barbara CC and they have many online courses available that do not require campus meetings. A

I would appreciate any other recommendations and/or validations that those CCs are viable options.

    Thank you! :)

I have taken an on-line course at Coastline CC - the one I took was completely on line (some courses require proctors or attend college for exams). I am very satisfied with my experience and plan to take other courses there.:)

My only complaints I have are:
Not many 200 level courses :(
    and
having to pay a medical fee :(

I just signed up to take a history course at Citrus CC.

Courses at California CCs (and other schools) can be found at

Cerro Cosso College is a great online school they are so flexible and are very very affordable 20 per unit... Look into it and please please please double check your checklist for transfer courses for either cal state or uc system if you want to cover more ground then utilize the IGETC checklist. You will find it in any of your community colleges campus this way you can take the proper classes...

Best of luck... I know you can do it...

    Ian,

I will take a look at Citrus CC, as I continue my research. Thank you for the link you provided, it is quite useful!

How was the instructor/student participation in the course you have taken at Coastline? Is there a forum and/or chat room that facilitate participation?

    Thanks again!

    SGTNOW,

Thank you for the information and the advice, I appreciate it! I plan on taking as many online lower-level courses at CA CCs, as the tuition cost is hard to beat. I will not be transferring to a CSU or UC, however. I do plan on transferring those CC credits to complete an online Bachelor's degree program, although I have not quite decided where yet.

    Thanks again!

    SGTNOW,

I must say, I am impressed by Cerro Coso College! In addition to offering a vast number of online courses, their site answers a lot of questions that other CC fail to address.

I will definitely look into this college with more emphasis in the morning. Thank you again SGTNOW!

    :)

Cerro Coso and Mira Costa offer good DL programs, but my favorite is Barstow Community College. Multiple 8-week sessions every semester, plus a summer session .

If you are a skier you could move to Mammoth for the spring semester to ski and take classes at the local Cerro Coso campus

Coastline uses a great on-line exam system which gives immediate feedback of exam and quiz scores. There was a forum that the instructor used to provide information. Students could use a course "chat room" but not much discussion took place. I did not communicate with the instructor at all - just read the textbook and completed assignments, quizzes, and exams. The course web site included videos related to the course.

Los Rios can be done all online

Los Rios College District (Cosumnes, American River, Folsom and Sacramento City Colleges) can all be done on line for many classes. You can enroll, register, etc., then select classes that don't require an on-site orientation or exams (they use Blackboard mostly).
