I search and looke don their site but could not find the answer to this: do the "big 3" have the "last XXX (e.g. 30) credits with us" rule that most other schools do?

Nope, that's what so attractive about them (or one of the things). I graduated from TESC with only taking 3 credits thru them for a requirement that (at the time) couldn't be found elsehwere.

    Excelsior

No 30 credit rule at Excelsior. I took only a single one credit course from Excelsior. The rest of my credits came from eight other colleges, CLEP exams, DSST exams, FEMA courses, National Fire Academy ACE rated courses, Military Service School Courses, and a three day ACE rated Homeland Security course I took from Texas Extension Engineering Service in Ohio.

Excelsior has no residency requirement. They do require a 1 unit class on information literacy. However, if you completed an equivalent class elsewhere they will accept it in transfer.

I completed a BS from COSC and never took a class with them.

Okay, I now may care about this. Which one accepts DETC credits? I have litterally dozens of credits I've collected on dead end (read washout) degrees I've chased, I may "already be a winner".. as they say..

What did you have to pay? I may be in the same boat..

It cost about $1,000 for all the fees.

Excelsior. They have a system where you pay $200.00 and they assess/evaluate your NA credits for transfer consideration. It was done recently by someone here. A search may come up with this info. If not, I will try to dig up the info. this afternoon after I get home from work. Right now, I am guzzling down coffee to get myself awake and off to work.

My wife is currently finishing up the BA in liberal studies at TESC. After I am done with my MBA, I plan on going to TESC to pursue a BS in Labor studies. That should look pretty nice on my resume. Of course, not as nice as your resume. :)

Thanks again. I'm going to look into it, I literally have credits all over the place that I have not done anything with, include AARTS stuff from days gone by..

BTW, keep up the work on the MBA!

Actually, if you're enrolled with Excelsior they no longer charge the $200 NA credit evaluation fee. I am enrolled in the A.S. in Liberal Studies program and I just transferred over 9 graduate credits from Aspen University (DETC). There was no charge, and it took about 1 1/2 months to go through the process. All I did was have Aspen send the transcripts to Excelsior and I faxed over the course descriptions and course syllabi. That's it!

Excelsior's rules regarding second undergraduate degrees can be found on page 27 of this publication:
    https://www.excelsior.edu/Excelsior_College/Publications/Student_Policy_Handbook.pdf

    COSCX has similar requirements:

    Hey Dave,

Here is some info. on the ECE NA credit transfer process. I think they have streamlined the process even more now. Somebody has transfered California Coast U credits to ECE at the BA level as well. I believe the Director of DETC works with ECE on some projects. Anyway, file this away in case it helps.

    See below:

    Dear Abner,

Thank you for your inquiry to Excelsior College.

You are generally correct in your understanding of the process. I would just add that the coursework must be degree level and there are some limitations when it comes to NLN and ABET degrees.

As well, the nationally accredited institutions must be approved by the US Department of Education and hold either professional or national accreditation, as verified by CHEA.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you need further assistance, please contact us again or call our toll free number at 1-888-647-2388 ext. 2-7.

(My letter to ECE confirming new policy)

    Hello:

Can you tell me if there was a new policy instituted effective 7/1/06 whereby a potential Excelsior student can follow the procedures listed below in regards to transfer of Nationally accredited Colleges/Universities?

    1) Student must pay $200 appeals fee
    2) Student must complete an "appeal" letter, which Excelsior will make available
    3) Student must provide official NA transcripts
    4) Student must provide NA school catalog with course descriptions for the year(s) attended
    5) NA school must provide signed letter referencing 3 RA schools that have accepted its credits in the past
    6) Package goes before a board for a decision.

Would this procedure apply to the National Accreditor DETC? DETC is recognized by the U.S. DOE and CHEA. Please advise.

    Take care,

    Abner

Thanks, I checked their catalog and do have enough left over undergrad credits for an AS degree. I don't need it, but I have nothing else to do and it seem a waiste to have them fade away..
