    Dear all,

I did some reading off old post / threads and it seems that the Jackonsville State MBA is the cheapest online AACSB MBA for out of state / international student.

Would anyone happen to know a cheaper option?

    Thanks for your time :)

    Cheapest online AACSB MBA

I looked at Jacksville website and didn't see the cost per credit hour. If it's cheap, how much? I can get 240.00 a credit hour where I just completed my BS

Over on the "MBA Sticky," the From the Great State of Alabama post (dated April 2008) puts Jacksonville State University's www.jsuonline.com MBA tuition at $225/hr.

    Hi Armyant20,

Can you share where you did your BS? (I presume the cost per credit hour is for out of state student?)

    Regards

I am a distance MBA student at JSU. The distance courses per credit hour for 2008-2009 is $300/credit hour. I have been very satisfied overall. I am just finishing my first semester. They do not have a bunch of extra fees either. Other than a small application fee, the per credit cost is pretty much the only expense other than books. The really great thing about JSU is that the entire program is only 30 hours. I have not seen another AACSB MBA that is less than 36 hours.

Just curious, what school did you go to that is offering an AACSB MBA for $240/credit hour?

    Hi Bmills,

Most of the old post / threads I read on JSU's MBA were yours :)

Can I ask you a few questions?

    1) Has the course delivery methods improved?
(You had a thread on it - with old professors not adapting to online teaching)

    2) What is the assessment method for the MBA (assignments, exams etc)

    3) How would the oral component be conducted? Do I need to fly down to the university?

I hope to embark on my MBA in end 2009 (maybe you would be done with yours by then!)

    Regards

    Answering each question:

    1) Yes, the delivery method got better over the course of the semester. There are still some communication difficulties, but the professors have been willing to adapt their methods to the online learning method. They just began a student rating system for the online classes, so that may have something to do with it.

    2) Each class is different as far as assignments and tests. The marketing class that I am just finishing had 5 case study papers, a mid-term and a final...no discussion board or peer collaboration. The Managerial Communication class was very different...a lot of peer interaction, one group assignment, no tests, one reasearch paper and lots of little assignments to do throughout the semester. I think each teacher has license to set-up the course however they see fit. It keeps you on your toes.

    3) As of right now, yes, you would have to go down to Alabama for the oral presentation, but I talked with the dean of the program and they are looking into other options, so by the time I graduate in the Spring of '10, that may be different.

For the money, JSU is great. The head of the program is very helpful, she approved a normally "non-MBA" elective course for me to take next semester because there was not a normal MBA-elective course available online.

Let me know if I can help with anything else. It looks like I am gonna squeak out 2 "A's" on these first 2 classes. My final in Marketing is today...I need an 85 to secure my "A."

Sounds positive, for the test / exams, are they done online or proctored?

The oral component is a little tricky as that will means additional cost. I reside in Singapore and the flight will not be cheap. Lets hope for the best.

I do apologies for disturbing you, I send 3 separate emails to graduate admissions over a period of 3 weeks and none was replied :(

tests are done online and are timed...not proctored

I see, that may explain the need for the oral component.

    Course offerings

    Hi bmills,

Can you tell me if JSU offers more than 2 courses per semester for the MBA program. How long have you planned for this MBA to take you? (in months) I have just applied, but I am debating which school to take the distance MBA- JSU or UMass Lowell. I would appreciate any info you can give.

University of South Dakota's online MBA is $290.65 per credit hour.

University of Wyoming is even better: $189 per credit hour for an Executive MBA (AACSB)

Unfortunately, JSU does not have any type of accelerated program where the MBA can be completed really quickly. Right now, you are only able to take 2 courses per semester. The total program is going to end up taking me 21 months...

Where are you getting that price for the University of Wyoming Executive MBA? This is a link from their website... http://business.uwyo.edu/execmba/faqs.asp?cat=General%20FAQs#2466

    You'll note that it says:

What are the costs of the Executive MBA Program?

The cost of this program is $550 per credit hour plus $40 per credit hour to cover the cost of technology fees.

Also - the University of South Dakota program is a 33 hour MBA. So the total cost is still more than JSU.

    $290.65 x 33 hours = $9,591.45 compared to JSU...

    $300 x 30 hours = $9,000

Still, $16,500 for an AACSB MBA is not all that bad.

With the $40 per credit hour technology fee, it is actually $17,700 and keep in mind that JSU is also AACSB accredited...

Unless one views the University of Wyoming as significantly more prestigious than JSU, then it seems like a no-brainer choice to me... :D

The previous poster probably got it here: www.uwyo.edu/uwcc/info.asp?p=5012. Graduate outreach tuition is $174/hour plus a $15/hour delivery fee. But I see from your link that the UWyo Executive MBA has a different tuition rate than Graduate Outreach.

One of the posters upthread seems to have had some issues with JSU offering only two courses a term. And I only said that the price wasn't bad, not that it is the best. Unfortunately, I got stalled at From the Great State of Delaware over on the MBA Sticky, so I can't really say for sure which is the absolute least expensive DL AACSB MBA. I can only throw out a few that seem relatively low cost.

    I agree

I spent almost 2 straight months trying to find the absolute cheapest AACSB MBA, not factoring in any outside factors like course delivery or speed and I still have not found an AACSB MBA that is currently cheaper than JSU, outside of some in-state tuition options for people that live in certain states. It really depends on how high price is on your list of priorities.

JSU's biggest shortfall is definitely flexibility with the schedule and speed, but still... being able to complete an AACSB MBA in 21 months for 9K is not too bad.
