Q about MLIS credits towards MA Hist

I'm really leaning towards getting a MA in History to do some adjunct teaching as well as getting an MS in Lib. and Info Science to eventually end up working in a library (maybe academic with my MA in History.)

I've tossed around all sorts of possibilities and I'm thinking an MA in History from AMU offers the selection of courses that I'd find most interesting. The interdisciplinary program at WNMU seems interesting but I looked at the schedule and I'm not sure I'd find a class I'd really enjoy each semester. The upside to WNMU is that I could teach two areas with the dual concentration but I'd hate to take classes I wouldn't enjoy.

Here is my question: How liberal are the transfer polices at AMU? If I finished my MLIS degree first, could I transfer in 9 of those credits toward my MA degree? AMU doesn't offer a Lib Science program so I'm guessing that these credits would be electives if they allow them to transfer. Any idea?

It varies by school, but many colleges/universities will not allow credit from an already earned degree to transfer to a new degree program. There are exceptions of course, but always make sure before enrolling or even sending the application fee.

What about someone working on two programs at once? There seems to be a window where someone would have 12 credits at one school and say 15 at another. Transfer them into the other school if allowed and technically you haven't used credits from an earned degree yet double dipped the credits.

I agree, checking is the way to go to be sure.

The most graduate transfer credits that a school will generally accept is 6 semester credits. The most I've heard of is 15 in the case of Excelsior College.

Here is American Military University's graduate transfer policy: www.amu.apus.edu/Catalog/08/graduate/information/graduate-transfer-credit/graduate-transfer-credit.htm .

Thanks for the info. It looks like they might be open to MLIS credits as electives in a History program after seeing the Air War College example they used.
