    ....or was it? ;)

The question is simple. Can you guys list all the RA distance education schools (that you know of) where courses can be completed in just 8 weeks? Not independent study, mind you, but bona fide programs leading to a bachelor's degree, centered around the dreaded 8-week term. Thanks in advance. :)

I think Iowa Central Community college does
I'm not in the know of how many colleges do offer 8 week terms...but I would think there are at least two dozen or so.

American Military University and American Public University offer 4-week, 8-week, and 16-week semesters. The web site for these schools is American Public University System.

    Capitol College

Capitol College is a B&M school with RA (Middle-States) in Maryland, and it DOES offer distance learning courses, including the popular Masters program in Information Assurance (IA). Their IA courses are 8-week and 16-week, lectures are delivered once a week via Blackboard.

Regis University is a US News ranked B&M Masters school and its online courses are 8 weeks in length.

Why is an eight week term "dreaded"? There are other course length options readily available.

I have just finished an eight week course at Coastline CC (I actually finished the course in 5 weeks).

8 weeks? Try one course each calendar month. (National University.)

Full disclosure: I was once affiliated with National, doing my MBA there. I do not now, nor have I ever, had a financial interest in promoting the school. Ever. Sorry to even have to bring it up....

I would rather have 8 week courses instead of 16 week courses like some traditional universities have. For me it feels as if time stops, its way too long for me. 8 weeks is a pretty good pace. 10 weeks would be perfect.

No idea, just passing on the "rumors" I have heard here. It seems people find it hard due to the accelerated nature of the courses. Thanks for all the suggestions; please, keep them coming. :)

I was in a rush earlier, so here's a proper answer.

Capitol sounds like a winner. Too bad there is no undergraduate option. :( I also like Regis. The CS curriculum is perfect, and I love the fact that you can also earn a Math minor. It's a bit pricey, though, and I wonder just how much you can truly learn in 8 weeks, considering the strenght of the curriculum. Does anyone have any experience with them? I have been considering Liberty for a while, but for some reason, it just doesn't "feel right". Same with Bellevue. Have any of you guys studied there? What are your impressions? Oddly enough, National doesn't sound bad. Some really interesting courses. Can Rich (or someone else) ellaborate? Once again, thank you all for the suggestions, please, keep them coming. :)

Probably because by the time you've been in the class one month, it's already mid-terms time. Then a month after that, it's finals time. If you actually have to read books (!) or do projects for a class, or even have to think about and digest a lot of complex and sophisticated material, it's a big load and a fast pace.

I much prefer semesters over quarters for that reason. When I was on the quarter system, I felt like I was always studying for exams or writing papers.

My own feeling is that very short courses aren't really the best thing for DL-learners, unless a student is only proposing to take classes one at a time or can devote themselves to studying full-time.

Taking several classes at once, while simultaneously holding down a job and family responsibilities, and rushing through everything as quickly as possible, would make real learning (as opposed to educational bulimia, cramming and barfing) awfully difficult, at least for me.

I loved the eight week grad-school classes at Regis (and also at APUS). I think 16 would seem endless, as some other poster said. I teach an 11 week session for undergrads and I think that it is just right for the length. For undergrads, eight might be too short. But it might be something that you have to try to determine which one you like. But if you like to "gut it out" and get it over with, eight is great.

I would much prefer to take the shortest route on general ed classes, 16-weeks would be way too long for me in math, english and science. I actually like history so it wouldn't be too bad. I'm taking a 4 week political science class in January and I think it's too long... (I hate everything to do with politics lol).

I looked at Liberty a lot when I was searching for the right school and the only thing that threw me off was their required religious curriculum, but it was listed under general ed (as philosophy) so when transferring in an Associate's, I don't think you *have* to take them. Don't quote me on that, though.

    Peru State

Peru State has 8 week classes. They run most on this schedule but there are a few such as their capstone or seminar class which run the full 16.

NC Wesleyan College offers some online courses in a 8 week format (most of the courses they offer are through their brick and mortar locations). They used to even offer 5 week courses but went ahead and quit those.

At any rate, www.ncwc.edu. They are about 290.00 per credit hour and offer general credits, accounting, business, criminal justice, etc on line.

Fort Hayes State University offers many of its classes in an eight week format now. I believ American Military and American Public University offer all courses in 8 week sessions.
