    (1) Joining a professional body associated with your career goalsis one good way to go (student memberships are usually the lowest cost membership). For example:
    ASQ http://www.asq.org/membership/individuals/overview.html
    American Management Assn http://www.amanet.org/joinama/individual.htm

    (2) Write papers or a book

    (3) Suscribe to Wall Street Jounal and a business magazine (Fortune?)

    (4) Enroll in a degree program. "I am enrolled in a BS Economics prgoram at TESC with expected graduation date of 2010. XX of 12 units completed to date."

    (5) Become a volunteer - museums, red cross (employes like having staff that can handle emergencies), theaters, etc.

    (6) Any other activitity or work experience that shows you as a reliable/dependable employee.

The U.S. Institute of Peace has free online courses that lead to certificates of completion.

    http://www.usip.org/training/online/index.html

They have one on Conflict Analysis and one on Interfaith Conflict Resolution, and while they're international in scope, they might still look good for social workers.

MichaelGates posted this on the free CEU thread. I noticed they offer 2 free certificates if you complete the outlined series of 5 classes each. You have to register, but it's all free. I signed up for a few food related courses today. Once you register, you can go into certificate options, it doesn't look like you can see that option from the general home page. The certs are:

Certificate Program Name: Environmental Health in Disasters Certificate Program

Description: This certificate program includes courses that provide an introduction and the fundamentals to risk assessment and environmental health in disasters. In addition, special topics such environmental health in emergency shelters, environmental sampling and environmental monitoring are also the focus of this program. This certificate program is composed of 5 courses. To see the course titles and enroll to the program please log in to the LMS

Certificate Program Name: First Responder Preparedness Certificate Program

Description: This certificate program covers subjects in communication, field exercises, handling chemical agents and biological response preparedness. There are five courses required for this certificate, course titles will be shown once you enroll to the certificate program through the LMS.

Is each class a certificate or do you need a collection of classes to comprise a certificate? Link?

Each FEMA Independent Study Course that is completed results in the issuing of a single certificate for that course. Certificates are issued online as pdf documents.

    http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp

Seven specific FEMA IS Courses may be taken to earn The Professional Development Series certificate.

    http://training.fema.gov/IS/searchIS.asp?keywords=PDS

All are free. All courses are recorded on a transcript that can be ordered at no cost.

I did these last night. Pros- they are on video. They are free and fast. Figure about 3-5 hours max if you watch every second of every video. Cons-these required me to upload something to play the videos- I think it's Saba (whatever that is) and it keeps making my computer freeze! So, after I take a quiz, I have to reboot. The lectures I watched were terribly boring (one guy especially was quite possibly the worst presenter I have ever seen!?!), but the quizzes were easy.

Excellent! I am looking for a FREE or VERY cheap certification that I can complete this upcoming weekend in leadership/management or something in education/special education. Any ideas?

I already plan on doing the three autism courses and the FEMA courses this week. I am looking for something for this upcoming weekend.

    Thanks!

I don't know if $75-125 is "very" cheap for you but there is also the Peace Operations Training Institute around, formerly known as Unitar-Pocci (some Uno sub-divison) issuring certificates in mostly peacekeeping related subjects:
    https://secure.peaceopstraining.org/
Most of them carry Army Correspondence Course Program (ACCP) credits.

I am applying for a paraprofessional position this weekend. To boost my resume, I am going to do the following:

FEMA Certification, which includes leadership, decision making, and effective communication components
    http://training.fema.gov/IS/searchIS.asp?keywords=PDS

    Online Autism Training
    http://autism.pbisillinois.org/training.htm

I am still looking for some FREE or VERY affordable online paraprofessional training that I can register for as a private party. I would also like to find a certificate in education that I could complete online and/or some sort of certificate in leadership/management. Let me know if you think of anything else. THANKS!!!
