I am looking for a PhD or EdD in Education. At this moment I don't care what the specialization is. My requirements are a program that is fairly inexpensive and fast. I do understand that it is a lot of work but I also see that some programs are 3 years while others average 8. I would like a program that can be completed faster. I have a MEd in Special education and would like that to count towards the credits required.

    Thanks

Northcentral may be what you're looking for:

Doctoral programs are, of course, going to be more expensive. NCU runs $525 per hour. However, 30 hours of your MEd are applied to your doctorate, and you would lack 51 hours. Of those hours, 24 are research/dissertation/comps. You can go through the content courses (the remaining nine classes) at your own pace. I finished most in a month each. Basically, all things considered, you're looking at spending $30,000 total and then the cost of the books. Look to finish in 2-3 years.

Did your M.Ed coursework include dyslexia?

Not specifically but it was included in courses. I have a CA teaching credential in Mod/Severe disabilities.

How fast you complete your doctoral program is primarily up to you. The reason that educational docotrates tend to take longer is that people pursuing those degrees usually work full time and complete their doctorate one or two courses at a time, with a couple of years devoted to dissertation. Those who choose to take classes full-time and who plan their dissertation ahead of time with a good committee, can complete the degree in a few years.
