I am considering University of Mangement and Technology, Arlington, VA. for my graduate studies. Master of Science in management to be specific.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this school?

How is the course work (assignments, exams, papers, etc) structured?

Has anyone seen student reviews on other sites for this school?

Any other info that might be helpful would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, i don't have any experience about this school. I never heard or seen any body obtained a degree there or attending there. The school is about 15 minutes where I live, and most people around this area don't know the school exists. In fact, it is only several blocks away my sister's shop. Is there any reason you want to go with NA instead RA? I meant, take a look at Liberty University, only $395.00 per credit, or Military/Veteran only $250.00 per credit. The University of Management and Technology costs $390.00 per credit.

Last time I check with Minot State University for their MSM, only $280.00 per credit. Also, Florida Institute of Technology, a Tier 3 school, cost only $425.00 per credit.

Well, I know that it's a DETC accredited school but I don't know that it's come up for discussion before. As there are so many other Masters level business programs around I guess I'd be curious as to why this particular one has caught your attention. Hopefully one of our members has some experience with this school and can give you a bit of inside information.

offers military scholarship $250/credit including books (bonus:accepts Defense Acquisition University transfer credit.)

currently finishing up BS from Columbia Southern Univ (DETC).

few RA schools will accept DETC undergrad, tuition at or near $250/ credit, No entrance/exit exam, no thesis, no group projects, I don't claim to be smartest guy around, but I can accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.

also considering Columbia Southern University, American Sentinel University, AMU/APUS (thesis/comp exam), TUI university (a bit heavy on writing requirements), Charleston Southern University (have not responded if they offer military discount), Univ. Northern Alabama (GMAT/tuition).

I tried Liberty Univ as undergrad, but did not like their "video lectures" structure.

What's about Andrew Jackson University's MBA in Management or Stragic Management? They have the zero tuition program, it seems to be very good deal.

I had looked at AJU in the past, but didn't know about their zero tuition programs for military.

Are they better established than other DETC schools? (ie. Columbia Southern, American Sentinel, UMT, etc)

    thx

DETC-accredited with all the limitations that come with that.

Got caught lying about launching a Ph.D. program. They had, and even had it approved by the Project Management Institute, despite the fact that (a) PMI isn't a recognized accreditor and (b) Ph.D. programs were/are beyond the scope of DETC's accreditation, and (c) DETC hadn't approved them for any doctoral programs, not even the DBA they now offer.

Other than that, why would you pay more to earn a degree with demonstrably less recognition?

    Nope!>>> But they are trying~
As others have indicated, NA degrees have limitations, but if you are OK with those limitations, by all means save some money.

Well, as likes other said there is limitation with NA degree. However, I would put the folllowing school in the place.

    1. Columbia Southern
    2. Andrew Jackson
    3. American Sentinel
    4. UMT

I was searching for DAU partnership, and I found they have lot of school, which include Florida Institute of Technology. It is a good school, and I would think you should choose the Florida Institute of Technology for your MSM because you might choose this degree as a terminal one. Maybe you'll continue for a Doctoral degree....Just use your MGI Bill, 'cause you can't use it later if this is your final one.

Sometimes, cheap doesn't mean good.! Also, there is a niche between DAU and UMT. They don't have a specific credits to be transfer into their Master in Management. I found that most of the DAU online courses are not trasferable to most of the institution for a degree. Most of the courses must be attended at campus.

Be advised that despite its name---“University”, the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) does not offer any college courses or college degrees at any level. DAU provides training courses needed by the defense acquisition workforce as required by the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) of 1990. This was a law (Public Law 101-510) passed by Congress to establish education, training, and experience requirements for the DoD acquisition workforce. DAWIA specifically established DAU to provide the training courses. Many colleges don’t accept DAU courses simply because they are short training courses sometimes only 1 or 2 weeks in duration.

Many DAU courses have ACE credit recommendations and DAU has a nice transcript system that shows courses with the credit recommendations by ACE. Some DAU on ground courses carry Graduate level ACE recommendations. I've never posted it because only certain folks are eligible but since the topic came up here's the links:

    http://www.dau.mil/registrar/faq.asp#eligible

    http://www.dau.mil/learning/appi.aspx#TABLE2

As for acceptability, I'm contemplating throwing a bunch of mine towards another bachelors, perhaps COSC. The problem for most folks who take these courses is that we use them for continuing education since normally a bachelors and 24 hours in business is a basic requirement for our initial certification. However, interns or others may find some benefit.

Hey Guys! This whole business thing is not really for me but I'm wondering why no one is pushing our new friend tribil toward AMU

    http://www.amu.apus.edu/index.htm

They've got the business degrees, they're pretty inexpensive, PLUS they are both DETC and RA accreditted. He could bridge the accreditation gap with an AMU Masters degree.

Have you looked at Thomas Edison State College ?

I contacted Thomas Edison State College, they said no-go on the DETC.

Kismet- I have been very interested in AMU's programs, but their Exit Exam/project and from what I hear a heavy writing requirement. (can some one provide more info on AMU's course strucure?)

I understand a graduate degree is suppossed to be challenging, but I just don't know if I'm there.... yet.

I got feed back from Columbia Southern students and from what I understand their grad program is structured very similar to the undergrad exept for an additional 1-2 extra papers, if that is true then I can handle that.

But please keep the ideas coming.... I appreciate the advise.

    thanks

UMT: I have always thought the name of this school was...well, kind of weird. Pretty expensive for a DETC accredited school, although it's not the most expensive DETC accredited school. Still...I wouldn't pay that kind of tuition for something less than RA.

AJU: I'm currently a student. I love it. No, I mean I LOVE IT! Very satisfied with the course work so far. It is challenging, the staff is attentive, and you can't beat the price. I enrolled under the zero tuition program and only pay for fees. This semester, it's four payments of $142. That's it...plus books, which I purchased on Amazon and eBay. It's DETC accredited, but I have plenty of options open to me for graduate study, so I'm not concerned.

As I work toward my BA and meet the requirements, AJU will also award me an associate degree along the way.

There are some great inexpensive MS in Management programs available at RA schools. There are also some good UK programs that would be cheaper than UMT, even after you figure in the exchange rate to the British Pound. I would go that route.

Looking at PMI's webpage, I see the non-existent Ph.D. from UMT is still "accredited." (Accreditation granted in 2006.) No mention of the DBA. Liars.

I have looked at the UK programs, but they all seem to be more expensive than $250/credit I checked out Univ of London (external) and UCL - London's Global University both ranged between £8000-12,470

UMT, CSU and ASU (listed above) range from $8250-9000, books included and no fess under military scholarship.

Which UK proegram would be cheaper than UMT? thanks

UMTs doctoral degree is a DBA that is listed on the DETC website
    http://www.detc.org/school_details.php?id=210.
My understanding is that DETC approves professional doctorate but not Ph.D. degrees.

Well, OK...perhaps not cheaper, but around the same price range or a little bit more, for a degree that I would argue has much more utility. I would give Durham Business School, Edinburgh Business School and University of Leicester a look.

This list at Get Educated has a number of comparably priced programs to UMT, CSU and ASU, and they are all regionally accredited.
