MBA sticky

  1. Hey everyone. I was just browsing the site and noticed that there is no "sticky" for MBA's like the one's for "M. Ed". I have seen a lot of posting about the subject but I think it would be a good idea to consolidate that information and build a sticky just like the "M. Ed". Thoughts?

It's an interesting idea although I've got to say that since it seems that every university in the universe is now offering an online MBA I'm not quite sure that there's any real need. We've got just about a gazillion threads on MBA degres and, if you'd like to do a little exploring, we've got an old friend, Jonathan Liu, who has made (and maintained) this great list:

    Very old friend.
I was thinking about the same thing, but since, I knew someone will suggest the same thing I was thinking, I let it run.

If someone wants to make a list of distance MBA's (without cutting & pasting Jonnie's list), I'd be glad to give it a sticky. However, I don't think it would be worth the effort considering there is already a great resource in place.

I was, at one time, creating an MBA list which was to resemble the "MEd Sticky." It was entitled "The Best MBA Programs." My idea was to do a state by state "From the Great State of Alabama..." all the way down to "From the Great State of Wyoming," complete with school names, websites, degree titles, majors/concentrations, hourly tuition, hours required, total tuition, and accreditations, then letting each individual decide for themselves which program was best for themselves. Unfortunately, the list only made it up to the Great State of Arkansas or the Great State of California before some guy named Vince yelled at me about the use of the terminology "best MBA program," so the thread sank into obscurity. I've been quite busy volunteering for Obama's Campaign for Change, volunteering at the Humane Society, volunteering at a local social club where I give short presentations on history & culture and serve as a twice a month volunteer karaoke dj, in addition to trying to re-collect various family history information (which got inadvertently tossed by a less-than-wonderful ex-roommate five years ago) before my first cousin once removed is born in February 2009 and trying to complete my application (provisionally accepted) for WNMU by forwarding transcripts & GRE scores and trying to finalize financial aid. But, I'll see if I can resurrect that old MBA thread and maybe it can get a sticky from one of the mods eventually, when it gets near-done.

I think an MBA sticky would be great. Jonnies DL page is great but some of the information is dated and there are many programs that haven't hit his list (yet). It's a pretty big job for one person-well not Ted-to keep such a list up to date and to be aware of new programs and post them in a timely manner. There should also be a generic masters sticky related to business subjects, MSM, MACC, MTax etc programs.

Aha! Here's the would-be "MBA Sticky" that only made it up to "From the Great State of Arizona" before it sank into obscurity: http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27695 . I'll get back on resurrecting that old thread after the Cleveland Browns/Denver Browns game. Meantime, I'll hang at the library for awhile till close and then mozy on over to the Browns Backers bar to swill a few Diet Pepsis during the game. ;)

There was enough interest expressed that I just went and stuck Zaya's thread about "The Best MBA degree" as Ted suggested. There was only a little argument in that thread. If we try to remember that what makes something "best" for me doesn't necessarily need to do the same for you, then this thread can become a resource for members rather than a wrestling arena. Thanks to peacfulchaos2001 for the original idea and thanks to Ted for making it easy.

No need for separate threads for MAcc, MSM, MTax, etc. The "Best MBA Degree(s)" thread, which Kizmet has now made our official "MBA Sticky," as it is conceived in my hand-scribbled notes plus my file DISTMBA.doc, attempts to include as many business-related master's titles as possible.

Damn! I meant the "Cleveland Browns/Denver Broncos" game!

I think there's about 410 on my personal file DISTMBA.doc. But I'm not sure whether that includes the international programs, which Jonnie's DL Page does cover.

Here's a suggestion: If someone wants to make a contribution to the "MBA Sticky" before me, I usually do things in alphabetical order. Hence, if someone were to find a state near the back of the alphabet, perhaps a sparsely populated state with few colleges and universities, one could take that state and do an entire "From the Great State of ..." post before me. Hint 1: Wyoming is alphabetically the 50th state. Hint 2: Wyoming does have one big state university, the University of Wyoming www.uwyo.edu , which might have a DL MBA. Hint 3: It seems highly unlikely that there are very many other schools large enough to support a DL MBA in Wyo. Hence, if someone were to go to the University of Wyoming website www.uwyo.edu and find their MBA majors (or whether it's just the general MBA), hourly tuition, hours required, total tuition, and accreditations, then they've beat the Tedmeister to a "From the Great State of ..." post. Or you can find another state. I've so far done only Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and Arkansas. There's 46 more states to go and "From the Great State of California" will be a long post, requiring a good deal of research.

  15. Consider it done. It's a little ruff around the edges, but once I finish getting my "feet wet", it should get much better.
