    Hello all,

The Clovis Community College Spring Schedule is available:

    http://www.clovis.edu/downloads/Spring2009Schedule.pdf

If anyone is looking for freshman/sophomore courses - out of state residents can take up to 6 credits for a total of $231 (including all fees). That breaks down to $38/credit hour. :)

Thanks again for making mention of Clovis. What an amazing price!

    Shawn,
Do you know if they have an age restriction? (I remember you have a child taking classes, I don't remember if it was at Clovis) My son Matt wants to take an Intro Computer class, he's 14. Locally, the policy is age 16, but I'm planning on asking for an exception (still waiting to hear back). I checked the Clovis site and couldn't find anything about age- and they certainly are a better price...I might not mess with the local school. Any thoughts?

    Jen,

Clovis Community College (CCC)does not have an age restriction. High school students who are not juniors or seniors must apply as a non-degree seeking student. In addition, CCC will not permit any new student to register for classes until after the Accuplacer assessment is completed. http://www.clovis.edu/StudentServices/CTA/Accuplacer.asp. The Accuplacer can be taken locally - and Clovis will assist you in getting that set up. The neat thing about the Accuplacer is that you'll have a good idea where your son is academically compared to incoming freshmen.

I can't say enough positive things about CCC. My two oldest children have completed four courses at CCC as part of their homeschool program. The staff and faculty have been very helpful and easy to work with.

    Shawn,
I was a little nervous about placement testing (locally) for a computer 101 class, because as you know, this sets up a track (in stone) for math courses to come. With him being only 14 (8th grade), his homeschool algebra level would probably test in as a MATH089 /MATH095 in an assessment, but he has 4 years of math to complete before he would normally take the test. I didn't want that to come back and bite him when it's time for him to take dual enrollment classes.

I think it might be a good plan to check out CCC, because then I could avoid my local college entirely until his junior year +/-. I'm totally comfortable with him taking the Accuplacer though.

I'm talking with my local school on Monday (this is not the one I work for) and if they want him to take the COMPASS placement exam, he'll be signing up for Clovis by Tuesday!

I would not sweat the Compass and/or Accuplacer - you can always retake the test at the appropriate time. (Well at least at Clovis, and the community college where I work at...)
