    So,

Took the GMAT today...absolutely did horrible! Lower 10 percentile...I completely underestimated the test...hopefully, my GPA, essays and work history can get me through. I applied to Oklahoma State, Chadron State, and Southeast Missouri State. All three require a competitive score, and mine is not.

I am very frustrated with myself for not taking it more seriously! We will see how this plays out!

Sorry to hear that; you might want to consider taking a prep course (Kaplan is one) and trying again if you aren't accepted into a school of your choice.

    I didn't even score a 400...i was in the 3 range...

I really don't understand how i did so poorly!

    I suck at standardized tests...ugghhh

  6. Sorry to hear it - if you're up to making a small investment try a study guide or other solution (such as 800score.com) to identify where you need to improve. Were you equally low in both Verbal and Quantitative?

Also, the most important thing is for you to get the first 5 questions right. As the test is adaptive, if you don't do well in the beginning the questions will never get hard enough again to score above 500 (the desired median score for the GMAT).

If you're nervous about taking the exam, it can also hurt you. That's why regardless of the sample material it should also have a computer-based component that gets you comfortable with taking computerized tests.

I was lucky a few years back to do well, but what was also interesting is that on the sample tests I purchased I scored very similarly to my final result. A little more prep and comfort may get you up to the 500+ range very quickly where you can re-test and apply.

    Good luck!

I'm sure you could do better if you're really ready but we also know that some people just don't test well in that way. For whatever reason those standardized tests don't really allow some people to demonstrate their knowledge. I'm guessing that there are some schools that don't require a GMAT for admission. Do we know which?

    Thanks for the reply!
I scored "ok" on the verbal, and very poorly on the quantitative portion. I thought I did really well on the quantitative part too. I also feel I did pretty well on the essay portion, but I wont find out about those scores until later. I am sure I can find excuses for doing so poorly, like having a headache, to early in the morning, etc...but I just simply failed to prepare, and it showed.
So...i guess i will wait and see what the colleges say...:(

I'm with Kizmet. There are zillions of master's programs with no GMAT requirement, heck, many are open enrollment. If you have time you could re-test, but if it were me, I'd start on plan B.

Every AACSB-accredited MBA program I've seen has required the GMAT, but some will waive that requirement if one already has a RA Master's degree. Not really helpful to the OP, but interesting nonetheless.

To ChrisH; since you've already applied, sit back and let the chips fall where they may. No sense in worrying about something you have no control over, and you may yet get the "big envelope" from one of your choices!

    Chris,

The University of North Alabama (who normally stomps Chadron in football)has the following option if you meet the criteria:

    http://business.una.edu/siteg/graduate.php

    "Conditional Admission for Mid-Career Professionals
This conditional admission category is reserved for individuals who meet EACH of the following criteria:

Must be 32 years old or older
Must have at least eight years of business experience with at least three years at a supervisory level or higher.
Must have a grade point average of at least 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale on all undergraduate work.
Must submit a letter of recommendation from an immediate supervisor who is familiar with your potential for graduate study.
Must submit a resume and application letter outlining your career objectives and the professional experiences that you have had that suggest you are a strong candidate for successful graduate study. Evaluation of this material will focus on evidence of writing skills and of analytical abilities and experiences.

Note: Candidates admitted under the “Mid-Career Admission” category have the same admission conditions as other conditionally admitted students but are not required to furnish a GMAT or GRE score."

    Good news!!

I received notice today, that I did in fact get accepted to Chadron State...Apparently, one must have a GMAT of 400 OR a total score of 900 using this formula: GPA x 200 PLUS GMAT score...I had a 930 :)

I have already registered for two classes, and am on my way!!!

Yeah, they require 3 letters of recommendation, competitive GMAT, a regionally accredited undergrad...http://www.csc.edu/graduate/degree/business.csc

I asked if I could waive the GMAT, but they said it was vital to their business accreditation?
