    Hello,

Has anyone heard about the programs for PhD and/or DIA (Doctorate Information Assurance) at the University of Fairfax (Vienna, VA)?

    Thanks,

I heard of Fairfax University before, but not University of Fairfax. Now, you brought up University of Fairfax, and its headquarters in Vienna, Virginia. I live in Fairfax, Virginia for 15 years and never heard of this school. I found that the school is approved by the State of Virginia Higher Education; however, they have up to 10 years to seek for the Accreditation whether National or Regional.

It is about 10 minutes drive from my house to their office, but never heard of it before. Anyway, why would you limited yourself..

Dakota State University offers Doctor of Science in Information System with Information Assurance.
Northcentral University offers Ph.D in Business Administration with Information Security.

I just affraid that the degree at University of Fairfax would be useless after 2013, when they can't gain the accreditation. Which I believe they have to shut down.

What leads you to such a conclusion?

    Dr. Okonkwo,

I think you refer to the wrong institution. The Fairfax University, which operates or operated in Louisiana and Cayman Island. The University of Fairfax is operated in Vienna, Virginia.

    1/2 Dr. Randell,

The Virginia laws allow a new institution has up to 10 years to seek for accreditation, and University of Fairfax established in 2003. I believe the Virginia International University, which the institution was established in 1998 up to 2008, the school was accredited by ACICS.

If you ask people around Northern Virginia about these universities, most of them would reply that they never heard.

    - University of Advanced Technology (DETC) Arlington, Virginia
    - University of Fairfax (Virginia Approved) Vienna, Virginia
    - University of Northern Virginia (ACICS) Manassas, Virginia
    - Virginia International University (ACICS), Fairfax, Virginia

There is no DETC-accredited University of Advanced Technology in Arlington, Virginia, or anywhere else. There is a University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona, which is ACICS-accredited. Or were you thinking of the University of Management and Technology in Arlington, Virginia, which is DETC-accredited?

First, I have never been called a "1/2 Dr" but I have been called half of other things ;). Thanks for posting the explaination that I was not aware of. This would be concerning to anyone looking at the school unless they offered one heck of a break on tuition and you were a gamblin' man.

The University of Fairfax in Virginia has been the subject of several threads.

Here's one in which I posted about an unflattering Washington Post story about the University of Fairfax and its owner:

I haven't looked closely at this school in several years. My impression back when I wrote the old post was that the University of Fairfax wasn't a flat-out mill, that it might have some educational value, but that it was overpriced, underaccredited and sort of opaque and iffy.

    Hello,

I went to the University of Fairfax web page and got the following

"The University of Fairfax, founded in 2002 in response to 9/11, is an independent non-profit institution certified by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and accredited in Indiana by the ICPPE. The University is an Authorized Education Partner and CPE Provider of (ISC)²."

    What is their certification?

Quick reply says walk away from the University of Fairfax. Same thing with "SANS College".

They mean well, they have some good people doing courses, but they're both too young to trust and as a result you don't get what you pay for unless you never want to use their paper as a qualification to take on a more advanced program later. Career schools, at best.
