I was looking at online & distance learning schools to receive a doctorate in educational leadership, which one would you all recommended

    1. Capella University
      Fielding Graduate University
      Argosy University
      Nova Southeastern University
      Walden University
      University of Phoenix
      Union Institute & University
      Cambridge College

It depends upon your career goal. Some of these institutions have become more established than others in certain academic settings (e.g. K-12 teaching, K-12 administration, community college teaching, commnity college administration, university teaching, university administration, etc.)

What do you wish to do with your doctorate?

Good question, would a Ed.S help someone break into the online teaching field or is the ph.d necessary? I don't know the answer I'm just curious.

    good options

There are many good options listed. I earned my EdD for years ago at Fielding and had a wonderful experience. At that time, I narrowed my choices to Fielding and Union. Ironically, I am now a full-time faculty member in Union's EdD program. I was drawn to both programs because of not-for-profit status, progressive leanings, and because there was some history of graduates getting faculty jobs in higher ed, which was my goal. I'm sure there are other good ones on the list as well but factors of time, money, travel, etc. will come into play.

    Best regards,

    Michael

If your desired teaching arena is the community college, the Ed.S. may give you a leg up on those with a masters as the highest degree. In a university setting, someone with a Ph.D. or Ed.D. would have a leg up on a candidate with an Ed.S.

It also depends on if you are teaching in an area of high demand and low supply of adjuncts. In that case, the Ed.S. would be fine.

    Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University has a EdD in Organizational Leadership.

I was looking for a PhD, but i was divided between this program and Eastern University's PhD in Org Leadership. The CGU studenst are roughly an even mix between those in education/ business/ and public-nonprofit service. a very attractive mix to me.

Ultimately, i have chosen Grand Canyon's program and will be beginning there next fall. I really wanted a B&M school with on-line program. (they both require residencies, but to me thats a strength, not a drawback)

I know a couple folks on this board were in the CGU program. a couple that ive talked to have since left becouse the course work was very demanding. even the admissions counselor mentioned as much.

    Fielding question

WATEACH, I sent you a PM regarding Fielding's Ed.D. program (specifically the grounded action/grounded theory) concentration.

Not really. There are a number of candidates with doctorates vying for adjunct positions in those areas.

What adjunct positions are in high demand? What area could one with 18 credit hours definately be marketable? Just looking forward to future studies. Again, thanks for the advise.
