Bait and switch: Ellis University?

Over the last several days I have gotten emails from several people in an Ellis College NYIT group I belong to, thinking they have enrolled with Ellis College of NYIT when in fact they have enrolled with Ellis University.

A few people in the group that enrolled after the cutoff date are under the impression they have enrolled in NYIT? A few of the emails and posts went on to say that their enrollment adviser never told them they were entering Ellis University (a totally different school). They joined with the understanding that they would be NYIT extended learning students (ie the NYIT academic branch/Ellis College), when in fact they are not.

If you notice in a Google search for Ellis College - NYIT MANY, MANY Ellis College banners come up, when one clicks on a link it goes "mostly" to an Ellis College webpage to request info. Everything shows Ellis College of NYIT. These links are in fact there to request info on Ellis University, not Ellis College-NYIT. Although the links have been redirected the Ellis University has NOT changes the Name of the school on the banners.

Soon all the ELLIS-NYIT students will have the option put to them as to which school they will choose, NYIT or Ellis University. These newer enrollees will NOT have this option.

I am sure that Ellis U will be a good school but this is not a good way to start. I know for a fact that this is not a good way to get students and KEEP them; and it can't be legal?

Based on what you've said, it would seem to be a clear case of misleading advertising. It doesn't take that much effort to change a web ad and so it makes you wonder if this is a simple mistake or something else. Perhaps you could alert the school to this. Their response would tell the story.

I agree, it's unfortunate that they appear to "need" to do that in order to get students.

Most of the people I know from EC will be staying with NYIT when the full split happens, and now we have several people in the group that want to go with us.
It's a sad situation no matter how one looks at it.

Cardean Learning Group is a strange company, too many name changes in the last several years, so many angry students.

NYIT is now left to clean up the mess of this most recent corporate action. I just hope for the Ellis University students that Cardean does not close this school as well.

    An uneasy history...

2000: The birth of Cardean University, Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education Training Council (DETC)
2002: The end of Cardean University
2003: The birth of Ellis College-NYIT ( a priceless gift to cardean)
2008: The end of the Ellis College name sake, students now NYIT
2008: The birth of Ellis University (regionally accredited owned 100% by Cardean Learning Group LLC of Chicago, Ill)

    TO BE CONTINUED......

All I can say is WOW. I feel bad for the students that went with EU..

NYIT has taken us in (we were theirs from the start anyway) and afforded us a warm welcome and assigned the transitioning students a high level administration type to oversee this situation.

    CARDEAN, WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!

You sir hit the NAIL ON THE HEAD!! I sent this to a few classmates and the response was mixed (because it does not effect us NYIT folk).

This one comes to mind: She thought this was normal for a newly accredited university.

IN MY HEAD: ahh no, not really. Sounds to me like they are in a bit of hot water, and judging on how this is playing out rightfully so. It just does not feel right.

At a minimum this action by the Middle States is NOT normal :)

I feel very bad for the students who were hoodwinked into going with Ellis, but I don't feel the least bit sorry for the people who made the asinine decision to split from NYIT with visions of big profits dancing in their heads.

DAVID HARPOOL is "that guy" at Cardean.

I think that should Ellis University lose its accreditation, the few students that actually signed up to go there will be assimilated into NYIT. I'm just guessing here.

The NYIT students (ME) are still being taught by Ellis University/Ellis College faculty. I wonder if Cardean does go down what will happen to us NYIT folk??

Maybe NYIT would hire the Ellis faculty to finish us out.

This is just something else I DON'T need to be worrying about.

    WOW, they did it Again!!

Cardean changed names or hands again. The new name is "Capital Education LLC". This is done just weeks prior to the accreditation boards decision on Ellis Universities Regional status. If they lose this war they will be a nationally accredited only school.

Maybe someone bough them out, and if they did the students have no idea what is going on as no one there is informing the student body.

The word from a few student is that EU has dropped their majors, AND they now have to find somewhere else to finish their programs, wtf are they doing to these folks.

EU does not even have the ability to offer federal tuition assistance to students.

The education model and 99% of the instructors are GREAT, the rest is a mess..

Thank god I stayed with NYIT...:biglaugh:
